craftsmanship and performance
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I bought a pair of these from a store in Germany, and I'm forever singing their praises. I do a lot of scrambles, and these grip like mad. Hard heel and firm firm fit, but super light. They're made incredibly well, for specific purpose: Hikes and climbs in dry and warmish weather. These shoes are not (even the tiniest bit) waterproof. If you stroll in the wet grass with them, you might as well be barefoot (trust me). That said, if the rocks you're jumping on to cross the raging river are wet, you'll have no worries. They'll give you amazing grip and support... even if your socks get soaked.

Not fit for purpose
Firstly this is my third pair of Hanwags and until now found their foot ware impeccable. These shoes however do not meet this standard. These shoes are not remotely waterproof! They let water in easily around the toe cap, simply when walking through mown grass in the local park. I contacted customer services with images and returned the shoes for inspection, I was subsequently given a replacement pair. The exact same problem is occurring once more. I even used proofing on this pair to no avail. You simply cannot relay on these shoes keeping you dry in the mildest of conditions around town, never mind a full day on the hills. Such a shame, I really wanted to love these shoes as I do their other products, but alas they are simply not fit for purpose. Unless you’ll never vet these wet, I would advise you not to purchase this pair of footwear.
