Rugged Mountain Pant

The Haglöfs Men's Rugged Mountain Pant lives up to its name with a technical design that promotes freedom of movement while still protecting against the weather and rocks you'd expect to encounter on alpine mountaineering missions. Climatic fabric is highly durable, stretchy, and water-resistant, and the seat and knees boast stretchier FlexAble softshell panels with highly waterproof, breathable protection found in Haglöfs ski apparel. Also like ski pants, the thigh zippers amplify airflow on the ascent. There are hooks that attach to gaiters for complete coverage.

  • Technical trekking pant for mountaineering and climbing
  • Climatic fabric is highly durable, stretchy, and water-resistant
  • Waterproof FlexAble inserts at seat and knees
  • Ventilation zippers at each thigh for amplified airflow
  • Reinforced lower leg insteps protect against crampons
  • Adjustable waist tabs and gaiter hooks ensure a secure fit

Great fit - once you get the right size

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I have been eyeing these pants for quite a long time - the 42% off sale was too good to pass up. I normally wear a medium, 33, so I ordered the med/reg. I have another pair of Haglof pants (breccia) that are a med and fit good. Well, a medium in a Rugged Mountain Pants is a completely different animal- I couldn’t even button them! Returned for a large still concerned they might be too small but the large fits great. They are great pants with good sized pockets. The material is a little noisy when walking but I suspect will soften once washed. I can’t wait to use them more!

Best Winter Mountaineering Pants.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M/reg

Have had these a month now and have done over 33,000’ vertical of winter climbing wearing them. They are the most comfortable, quiet, bulletproof winter climbing apparel I have ever owned. Invaluable on a cold hard climb. I honestly didn’t think I would never use the ventilation zips on the sides of the thighs. Thought they were a kind of a gimmick; a vulnerability; something else to break/freeze and go wrong, but they are actually brilliant on a long hard climb. Expensive pants. I don’t think I would have had the stones to pony up for these, if it hadn’t been for my Summit Club credits. So glad I got them. Will last for many many years.

Fantastic Pants

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium/Regular

Excellent fit and very comfortable. The material is heavy and rugged. Water resistance and warmth is perfect for the Pacific Northwest fall/winter hiking. Size medium/regular fit perfectly around my 5' 9" 175 lb frame.

Great Pant - Strange Fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

These were everything I hoped for in terms of design, features and quality. You wont be disappointed on that front.

However I'm 6'3", weigh 180, and have a 36 waist or so. Normally I am in between a large and an XL when it comes to pants. I got the XL because I believed the reviews that said the pants run a bit small and I don't mind baggy for hiking.

So the waist is a bit large but I can manage it with a belt but at the same time the thighs and butt are a bit tight. What the heck? I'm keeping the pants because they are close enough and love the design but I'm not sure what kind of body these are intended to fit.

So Sad, Slightly tight on waist

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: L

Received these pants and they looked so awesome. I wanted to make them fit so much, but they were slightly tight in the waist. This is before being able to make any adjustment to the waist strap. I was hoping they would come in slightly wider and be able to make fine adjustment for my waist size but that was not the case.
I had bought the Large 36.6 and was surprised they didn't fit. Am I getting fat in my old age?
Anyone who fits these pants well is the lucky person since these pants look they would be so awesome. I returned then and as always Back Country took good care of me.

Agree 100%. 6' 190 same exact problems. I need smaller waist and longer legs, but the design is so great just going to deal with it!

Nice pants

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: M

got this for my boyfriend and it was almost perfect- seems to run kind of small on the waist. I had ordered the M for him but it was tight on the waist but perfect for length so we returned it to get a L (still waiting for shipment). However, the pants are great in terms of having waist tightened straps and straps at the bottom of pants to tighten and lots of pockets. Heavy material that seems like its more for winter hiking or mountaineering. Will be testing this once received in Seattle area!

Tuffer than workwear

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: medium

These pants has become my best friend in the outdoors. This are my second pair of Rugged Mountain Pant over a 10 year period. I have been so impressed by the durability and the way they feel on the trail. Each leg has a ventilation zip that has been very useful for the warm days. Over the knees and the back its water proof. What more can you ask for?

Great Winter Pant- Rugged

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Exceptionally well made, highest quality. Heavy duty but on the warm side. So think winter activities in cold temps... You would not want to wear these summer hiking for example as the materials are thick and warm. One other note- they do not have a zipper at the ankle, so no room for ski boots as they are somewhat narrow at the ankle cuff. They fit over tall hiking boots well. Having said having said that, they are excellent for any cold weather activities like hiking, ice climbing, X-country skiing (low boots), etc. I guess if you wore gaiters, you could use them with BC ski boots (but test to see if your gaiters will fit over you ski boots to be sure). But then, you'd be wearing gaiters over your ski boots. Bottom line, these are some of the best pants ever on par with any top brand in the world. If they made an equivalent summer weight pant, I'd own a couple pairs of those too.

Hey Anthony! Haglofs does make a summer version of this pant called the Rugged Flex pant!

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Bend to the side and measure around the place where your waist bends, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Stand with feet together and measure around the fullest part of the hip.
Measure from the crotch to the floor with no shoes.
