HaglofsRugged II Mountain Pant - Men's

The return of the Rugged.

The Haglöfs Men's Rugged II Mountain Pant lives up to its rugged name, and it's versatile for any adventure in the mountains whether you're hiking down low or climbing in the alpine. Its Climatic softshell fabric balances between mountain-worthy durability, four-way stretch performance, and protective water-resistance. Haglöfs reinforced the knees, cuffs, rear, and gusset with stretchy panels, and a highly waterproof membrane provides extra wet weather protection. Triple-stitched main seams keep the Rugged II Mountain pant strong for seasons. This pant also features zippers at each thigh for ventilation, adjustable tabs at the waist, and adjustable buckles at each cuff. There's a phone pocket inside one of the zippered thigh pockets as well.

I've been using these pants for the past month or so as my camping and climbing pants while out in the mountains. They're definitely true to their name and stand up while out in the backcountry. The ventilation side zips are great for dumping heat while on an approach or hiking to camp, and the material does a great job of keeping you dry in the rain. When rock climbing, they don't restrict your range of movement and can take a beating when up against sharp granite. The extra front zip pockets are nice to have as well for storing your phone or keys.

Perfect mountaineering pants

Maiden voyage this weekend on Mt Washington. High winds, sub-zero temps and deep snow at camp was the perfect test for these pants. Extremely comfortable, not restrictive in any area, stayed up and kept me warm. It was -50 windchill on the summit and I only had a merino wool long John pant underneath. I was 100% warm. Definitely buy these!

Can anyone comment on whether they think a MEDIUM will accommodate a 25 inch circumference thigh ? I have found the Scandinavian pants to be especially tight in the thigh and was hoping these might be an exception ....

    Hey Duncan,

Thanks for the question! sorry for the late reply. These are a wider than all Scandinavian pants you'll have tried in the past. I think you're going to find these are exactly what you're looking for.

    Fabulous pants

I wear these for fat biking in Minnesota, and as my general cold weather pants when walking the dog in the woods, etc. They are comfortable and absolutely indestructible. As others have noted, the belt loops will accept a two inch belt, which I find helpful. They have a cinch at the cuffs that allows me to tighten them over my boots and forgo the use of gaiters. I've used them hard now for four winters, including twice riding them in the Arrowhead Ultra 135. Out of the wash they look brand new. HIGHLY recommend.

Great pants. Run large in the waist

These are solid hiking pants. One issue I have is that the adjustable waist doesn't seem to cover average waist sizes. I'm a 33" and while you'd think the medium would work great from the size charts, I found I have to routinely pull my pants up. Pack waist belts are constantly pushing these things down. They need suspenders or something.

      Excellent Hiking and Climbing Pants

The other reviews state how well made and rugged these pants are... all very accurate. Packed with tons of nice features. Bought a size M-Regular... I have a size 34 waist, 32 inch inseam, and cycling legs (pythons, not thin). Normally buy L, but took a chance based on Haglofs sizing chart. They fit perfectly, but were slightly restrictive in the thighs with a thin smartwool base layer. But for our dry / low humidity Colorado climate, I can't imagine needing any more insulation. They have some heft to them and are quite warm alone.
Didn't try to put them on over a ski boot, but guessing they'd be to slim in the lower leg. There is no zipper/not enough stretch to expand over an AT style boot.

All in all, a very well made pair of pants suited for the mountains.

      Excellent Hiking Pants

The zipper pockets and adjustable cuffs really is what I was searching. My inseam is 29 inch so the short inseam is excellent. Please note the side adjustments on waist adjust down. I had to return to get the next size larger to adjust down on waist adjustments. During the summer I work in Grand Teton National Park and eating cafeteria food I tend to gain weight. That's why I got the larger size. Then in winter I lose the weight I gained. So the waist adjustments come in handy once back to my normal weight.

Update: I have used these pants hiking and they are the best pants as they are waterproof and wind resistant. I would definitely buy these pants again. Highly recommended.

      Will get a 2nd pair!

Great pants. Seemed to handle the snow and blow well. Perfectly wind proof. Water proof! Hiked in 15 degree temps this weekend with no base layer. Felt great. Cuff loop is a bit awkward to get attached but worth the effort when shoveling 17" of snow. The cuff adjustment belt does not stay tightened very well. May take some breaking in. Just as good as my Norrona's.

I'm 5-7, 160, 35" waist and 29" inseam. I ordered a medium short and they fit well. The pants have stretchy material in the seat and knees. Only has one rear pocket on the right side which is zippered. Has two front pockets to warm your hands which are 6" deep. The outer thigh has a 8" zipper to let out heat or provide ventilation to help with your comfort level. There are also two front zippered cargo pockets 6-10" deep based on fabric cut. The right pocket has a second pocket inside measuring 3"x 4" for a small phone, keys, cards, etc. The bottom of the pant leg is adjustable to cinch the leg tight to your boot and can act like a set of gaiters. The cinch strap is 1" wide and is secured by one or two belt loops. Speaking of belt loops, there are 5 which will take a 2" wide belt. The two loops next to the zipper have a lower loop as well which allows to to attach a small carabiner for keys, compass, etc. The waist also has two Velcro adjustment straps that appear to be able to cinch in the waist an additional 6" and this could be an important feature based on your waist size. I tested the fabric for waterproofness and found that water beaded on the surface and did not go through. The pants have been thru one wash cycle after getting the knees muddy and they cleaned up well. These will be my "go to" pants for backpacking since I won't have to carry rain pants anymore. While these may be the most expensive pants you will ever buy, if you enjoy the outdoors these pants provide a lot of versatility.

Fits great. Great mobility, breathable. I purchased these as a hunting pant in Southeast Alaska were it's always wet. Looking forward to putting them to the test. Thinking about buying another pair in a different color.

      Unanswered Question

There is a discrepancy about the size chart in Amazon and Backcountry.
I am interested in the Haglofs rugged mountain pants and in Amazon the S size corresponds to 29 inches in waist and in Backcountry to 32,7-33,5, which one is the real one?

What is the inseam length on the short?

On a medium, the length is 30" measured from the crotch of the pants.

do u have these in long?

Hey there! Thanks for your question.

We don't have these in long. The longest pair we have in stock is the XL which measures the inseam length between 33.9 - 34.6in
