    Microlite 1000 Twist Water Bottle

Fill the GSI Outdoors Microlite 1000 Twist Water Bottle with ice water before heading to the trail to ensure that you will have refreshing water at the summit. The stainless steel construction is taste free and holds ice for up to 32 hours, while the thin double walled design cuts down as much size as possible to keep your pack light and comfortable.

    • Lightweight insulating bottle for staying hydrated on the go
    • Stainless steel construction leaves no taste and boosts durability
    • 2mm thick walls allow this water bottle to stay lightweight
    • Secure screw top gives you piece of mind while in your pack
    • Lid leash enables you to clip this bottle outside your backpack

    great insulation, difficult cleaning

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    The care instructions state:
"3/ Always separate and clean lid and lid seal. Lightly pull seal away from cap and remove."
Problem is, there's no way that I can grab the seal with a finger, and I don't want to risk cutting the thin silicone with a fingernail or a tool.
I twice wrote to GSI for more detailed instructions but received no reply.
We purchased these containers to keep our coconut water or other hydration fluids cold. They do the job, but the sugars in the liquid will grow mold and bacteria if they are not completely removed after each use. We found that a soapy Q-Tip, (with a paper stick!), seems to work okay in cleaning the inside surfaces of the seal. But cleaning shouldn't be this difficult.
As insulators, these bottles are considerably more effective than what we experienced with other stainless bottles a decade ago. Also they provide considerably more usable volume for their size.
Making certain that the bottles and liquid were very cold before starting out, they kept full containers ice-cold throughout a warm day (a couple of ice cubes inside hardly melted). Frequent opening and sipping resulted in warming, though after eight hours in the sun the last of the liquid was still fairly cool.

On the positive side, these bottles are considerably more effective than what we experienced with other stainless bottles a decade ago. Full, pre-chilled bottles kept liquids ice-cold (and kept a couple of ice cubes frozen) for a full day in warm weather. Sipping on a bottle through an 8-hour hike resulted in considerable warming of the liquid, but the remaining sip was still cool.
These bottles provide considerably more usable volume for their size than older models.
They have been thoroughly bounced around while hiking and driving and they have not leaked.
