Climb like a machine.
Made from a single piece of hot-forged Italian chromolly steel, the Grivel Machine 3.0 Ice Tool is a tough, light, and reliable axe for vertical to overhung ice and mixed climbing. The T-rated shaft is significantly bent to clear bulges and help out on steep routes, while the included ice pick tapers to 3mm at the tip for easy penetration, even into hard ice. It's easy to replace the ice blade with the stouter mixed blade, and the dual-density nylon and rubber grip is also fully interchangeable. When your winter revolves around seeking out burly pitches that split the difference between rock and ice, the Machine 3.0 is a tool you'll be stoked to have.

- Q & A
I spent some time with this tool on a recent trip to Ouray. I own the new BD Fuel, and have owned the Vipers and Cobra's. I have also spent a lot of time on the Nomics and Quarks.
These tool's very much excel on vertical to less than vertical ice. It's swing is well weighted and drives very easily. It was a breeze for me to land good placements compared to the Nomics or Fuel's, because these tools needed less of a specialized flick at the end.
The women in our party, four of them, all preferred this tool over all the rest we had. Which also included the Tech Machine and the Quantum Tech.
This is by far my favorite tool for less than to vertical ice.
