Fast and light weekender.

If weight is your biggest concern after capacity, consider the Gregory Women's Jade 53 Backpack for your long-weekend ridge epic. What this pack gives up in space, it returns in speed, thanks to lightweight construction and ventilated, fatigue-fighting CrossFlo Suspension. Gram-counters can easily cram enough gear in this pack for multi-day treks, while casual hikers will find it ideal for overnights and supported trips.

The CrossFlo suspension system features strategically-placed vents that keep a steady flow of refreshing air moving through the straps and back panel, and it also stabilizes and supports the pack when loaded up with a few days worth of gear. You can access the main compartment through the full-body U-zipper when you're packing, or you can reach into the quick-draw top closure when you need to grab something quickly on the trail. The top pocket is also removable when every ounce matters. Other thoughful features including hideaway trekking pole loops, side and bottom compression straps, multiple pockets, and an internal hydration sleeve keep you prepared for the journey ahead.

Pack for My Wife

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My wife really likes this pack, she says it is very supportive, the straps are quite comfortable when everything is loaded there are lots of features that make the pack easy to organize and keep essentials within reach, and the internal frame does a great job of distributing the load.

I love love love love it!

For some reason backpacks are never good on my shoulders. This one I bought (55L) based on the reviews and comments and it has been a pleasure! I am 5.7" and 125 lbs. I went on a three day trip with my family (2 adults and 3 kids) and had to carry a 2P tent and two sleeping bags , clothes for myself, toiletries and snacks for all. We went uphill for 5 miles and I did not have any soreness whatsoever. It felt light and it shaped itself to my body right away. I would highly recommend it. Only 4 stars since I've only used it once.

Great Backpack!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm very happy with this backpack. I've used it for both traveling out of the country and for backcountry camping.

For traveling out of the country, I packed light on the way there, which allowed me to fit the backpack in carry on. It's great because the internal frame is short enough to fit in the overhead compartment with the bottom of the backpack in the back and the top of the backpack facing the door panel. So I didn't need to turn it sideways to load it there. On my return trip home, I filled the backpack with things I purchased and checked it in. There's no way the backpack would have fit back in the carry on overhead compartment when it's full.

For backcountry camping, it's got everything I needed. A way to easily access the main compartment, a separated sleeping bag compartment, hip pockets, to name a few. It easily fits all my gear for a multi-day trip: tent, sleeping bag, clothes, stove, and food. The cross-flow ventilation is very nice, keeps me so much cooler on warm days. I haven't had any hip bruising from the pack either.

Also, the small backpack it comes with is VERY handy. Especially since it has loops on the outside to tie stuff to, such as my rain jacket.

I'm 5'5", 155lbs. and the medium size fit me well.

Hi, can you advise the size of the internal frame? It is a deal breaker for me since I will use it mostly for carry on.

Runs Small - If Between Sizes, Size UP!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I had been borrowing my MIL's Deuter bag for a while to figure out what I wanted in a bag, and I finally picked out the Jade 53. I cared about the mesh open-back suspension, the two hip pockets, the U-shaped zipper that lets you access from the middle, the included rain cover, and the super easy-to-open drawstring at the top. I like that you can access the bag from the top, middle, and bottom.

I was measured for my size at a REI store before I ordered online at Backcountry...I'm between a S and normally you size down. Your height and weight are irrelevant because it's the length of your torso that if you are between sizes based on your torso length, for this bag, size up! (For ref, both a previous reviewer and I are 5'3" 105lb, for her the XS fits well, for me it's the S.)

Overall, this is a wonderful bag with all the right features and extras without adding too much weight or cost!

Nothing to not love about this pack!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I LOVE this pack! Seriously love it. Lightweight and comfortable, it fits my body frame perfectly leaving no back or hip pain when it is filled with gear. I am 5’ 9” and a size medium and the fit is perfect and I love the mountain purple color. There are top, middle and bottom zippers making access to the inside easy without having to unload all your gear to get to certain areas of the pack. There are two huge mesh side pouches for water bottles or other gear and one large mesh pouch on the front of the pack that easily fits a camera, maps or other gear you may want quickly. The top can be removed and has two large pockets and a key clip and two zippered pockets that sit on the hip straps that can hold a small camera or a phone and can be accessed easily without having to take your pack off (I love that these are as big as they are because I love to take pictures and it is nice and easy to grab my phone from the hip pocket). This pack is great for an overnight or multiday adventure not only for it’s inside space, but it also is loaded with straps to help carry your tent, sleeping bag, pad, snowshoes or poles on the outside. Another great feature this pack has is an internal hydration sleeve that can also be detached and used as a small day pack. The compression straps are perfect to size down your pack when needed and I was able to fit this pack in both the overhead bins and under my seat when travelling on a plane. I highly recommend this pack to anyone looking for multi-day pack or ever a larger day pack.

Nothing to not love about this pack!

Always go back to the Jade!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have an older 60 L version of this pack and have loved it! I've had it for 3 years and it's still going strong, but I wanted a back that's a bit smaller for shorter trips so I bought the 53. I backpack in Central/So America and Asia when I can and I use my 60 liter for longer trips of about 6 months +. I'll likely use this for shorter trips of 1-3 months. This pack is just as comfy as my 60 L, has similar strapping and storage zips. I love Gregory!! I'm 5'3" 105 lbs and the XS fits me well.

Um, where do I begin? I have done my fair share of hauling stuff up and down mountains/canyons/etc - and this pack is AMAZING. I will never again use a pack without the Cross-Flo ventilation system. Sweaty back is the worst, no? The Jade won me over in the seriously thought-out details - removable rain cover, suspended mesh backpanel, (yes - amazing enough to mention TWICE) the ultra-cusioned shoulder harness and hip belts, some fun little pockets and accessibility along the bottom compartment, too. I love it. I have already used it on multiple hikes. No bruises on my hip bones, no back pain! And I am all about practicality over color - but the Mountain Purple looks lovely against most any landscape. HIGHLY recommend.

This backpack has it all. I am raveling to Europe this fall and it has all the features I want. Rain cover included, detachable backpack from the inside, and looks really cute.
