Love it!

I bought this for my sister so she could go hammock with me. She loves it. I got her the sky blue/purple color because she has been really into those colors lately and she loves it!

Great for sitting, great for napping!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought this as a gift for my mom, but she had a lot to say about it!

"We went hiking in the Santa Rita Mountains south of Tucson to escape the heat. The Grand Trunk hammock was compact, lightweight, and fit nicely in my backpack. It was very simple to unroll and attach to oak trees with the straps provided. I used an extension on one end as the trees were a bit far apart. The hammock made a great chair to sit and eat lunch, then really comfortable for a quick nap before heading home. The attached stuff-sack made it quick and easy to break camp. The hardest part of the whole thing was finding trees in a quiet, shady spot close together!"

I have three of these hanging in my back yard and my family loves them. We have owned hammocks from ENO and these are very comparable. They are easy to hang and my kids are pretty rough with them but they still look new. Overall a great, but basic hammock.

Poaching a spot between two trees for the night. To be traveling through the area on my way back to Chamonix, not wanting to deal with getting a room just to sleep, a hammock gives you such an easy option to set up and leave no trace. I added a under quilt and lightweight top quilt for the most warm and comfortable night, even though the temps dropped down into the low 40's. I did the same thing in Courmayeur the next night.

This hammock was a gift that now has become a go to in my travel and camp set up. Ultra light, durable, easy to set up and keep clean. The most fave piece of gear that gets me up off my feet and relaxing in an instant!

      Fun for all.

Got this for my self, for some easer camping option. But when I broke it out for a test run, it was overrun with children, and I couldn't get them out. They all had so much fun, hanging out and playing all sorts of games. One of my best purchases.

      Fun for all.

Great little hammock. Comfy and easy to set up using the grand trunk ties. The attached stuff sack is a nice bonus and doubles as a beverage holder. I would recommend a double for tall individuals 200 pounds or over.

        an interesting purchase

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First off, let me start by saying that I've used this hammock for almost 6 years now. In the snow, alpine, summer days, around the lake, in the sun, at school, and backpacking. I'm pretty familiar with it.

Pros: The hammock is made of nice strong weight of nylon that is very durable and reliable. The stitching is tight and no threads have come overly loose. Comes with hanging cordage set up in loops to make hanging easier and to spread the load around a tree trunk/branch. Entire system is durable. Unfortunately, that's where I feel that the pros end.

Cons: since I've used this hammock primarily for backpacking, it is not ideal weight, coming in at 22 oz(this was before the GT sub7 were available). Part of this the steel biners. They are overkill and can catch on the rope and pinch, causing premature artificial fraying. There exists a twist in the hammock system that can cause the user to fall out of the hammock or unable to keep a flay hammock lay. I hate to admit it, but I've fallen out quite a few times in the middle of the night. The cordage system used to hang the hammock is not very versatile. The system has a low distance available between trees so you have to find that perfect tree distance, and the cords don't exactly spread the load onto the tree well. I've cut some bark before, unfortunately.

Conclusion: The GT single is a great hammock for the average person. It's durable, comfortable, and well made. It has a couple shortfalls, such as the hanging system. I recommend changing them out with some Metolius mini II biners and also replacing the cord with some climbing webbing. Use a waterknot to make a loop for the carabiners and then use a timber hitch around the tree with at least one wrap on the backside of the tree. I've loved my Grand Trunk ever since I purchased it but nowadays I would probably recommend another option.

I absolutely love hammocking. This single hammock is super lightweight and easy to set up. I always have it in my pack, because honestly who wants to sit on rocks and dirt when you can hang out in style. I was missing this hammock so much that I thought I would put it in my pack while snowboarding! They are great gifts too!

        A hammock with style

I purchased this hammock last year for some light backpacking and general lounging around. I really digged the color options and had a hard time picking one out. The attachment straps are extremely easy to use. Set up time is less than a minute. Deffinitly recommend!

          A no-brainer

I have this in my car or pack on every adventure. Its easy to set up and packs up quickly. I have replaced the carabineers to be more lightweight, but that was my only change. Its a good place to nap on a hike or a good seat for me and a buddy while we take a break. I've slept overnight several times in this sucker. Easy peasy.
