The new one.
Gore Bike Wear's standard One jacket is great to pack on cool spring days that look like they might have something unpleasant in store for you halfway through your ride. In contrast, the One Power Lady GTX Shakedry Bike Jacket is made with an aggressive fit and a bit more storage space, so instead of taking it along just in case, you can roll out for a block of soggy base miles without having to deal with the soggy part.
The standard (if "standard" can really be applied to any of Gore's One jackets) model features the same Active membrane, which is Gore's most breathable model, recommending it for high-intensity aerobic activity. Like cycling. But the One Power Lady jacket includes features to increase storage capacity, comfort, and ensure a more race-appropriate fit. These upgrades elevate the jacket, making it more than just a training aid to stuff in a pocket on those just-in-case days.
Gore's Shakedry technology is the ultimate expression of the industry's oft-repeated promise that water will "bead up and roll off." We definitely recommend against waiting for it to roll off, though. Give the matte-finish fabric a snap and the beads will shake off in a satisfying scatter. It feels good to watch the rain and road spray return to the environment around you instead of soaking through into your midlayer or jersey while you're riding, and giving the Shakedry membrane a jostle before ducking into a café also ensures you won't leave a puddle on the concrete floor during a mid-ride break to warm your hands on a cup of coffee.
The chest and side pockets don't provide a huge amount of storage, but they're enough to keep essentials handy and protected if you outsource most of your cargo to jersey pockets or a saddle bag. Comfort is just as important as cargo on long training rides, and the offset zipper and button-flap collar help reduce irritation from a frigid zipper and all-but eliminate the risk of an errant gust finding its way into the collar. The cuffs are finished with a similar closure system, so you can pull them on over gloves and then batten down the hatches to keep the weather at bay.
Finally, when we think of Gore's engineering prowess, we typically think of weather-blocking membranes. But the One Power Lady Shakedry jacket's unique solution to the fit issues typically associated with all-weather gear demonstrates the Delaware-based outfit's ability to think outside of the lab. Gore builds in a stretch-to-fit belt in the rear of the jacket, which pulls the material taut across your stomach in order to eliminate the drooping-belly effect. This makes the jacket an easy choice for the rainy races of early spring while letting it stretch to accommodate thermal layers for damp base miles in winter.
