A 2-hole-cleat shoe for the road

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I was looking for a 2-hole-cleat (SPD) shoe for use with shimano ES600 road touring pedals for my road bike. Why? I wanted the feel of a road pedal and shoe that I could also wear and walk in comfortably off the bike when stopping for a cool one. My rides are mostly less than 2 hours and totally for pleasure, so I didn’t need a top performing ultra stiff SPD-SL shoe. The Giro Privateer Lace is that shoe. While it is positioned as a “mountain bike shoe”, it is similar in fit to my Giro Empire E70 SPD-SL road shoes, but with a sole that allows me to walk on pavement and floors without slipping or duck-walking. I’m a 9.5D with a higher arch and the 43 is snug but comfortable. I’m a fan of laces as Velcro can wear out and BOAs are convenient but add cost. Laces can be adjusted for my foot shape, the lace garages on these shoes keep the ends out of the way, and lace shoes are not only less expensive but also don’t look out of place at the pub. The olive/gum color looks pretty good too. With the discounted price I’m happy and recommend these as a “mountain bike shoe” you can walk in that works as a decent recreational road shoe with SPD cleats/pedals.
