New and reduced.
We were excited when we heard about the first generation of Giro's New Road Undershorts. We like the look of a lot of the New Road gear, and if a corresponding pair of chamois-equipped boy shorts would let us discreetly use a pad under that casual façade, then all the better. Giro has since updated the design with the New Road Undershorts 2.0, which correct some flaws that made the original model slightly less than ideal.
We admit that were let down by the originals, which looked like actual, stand-alone cycling shorts and had a long inseam that peeked out below our shorts and gave us away. The Undershorts 2.0 address both problems, reducing the waistband to an unassuming elastic strip, reducing the material's weight by substituting spandex for elastin, and reducing the inseam to a scant five inches. The overall effect is a pair of Undershorts that feel more like underwear, fitting beneath your casual clothing without adding any undue bulk.
