Winter Doesn't Stand a Chance.

The right piece of kit can make a world of difference in the quality of a ride. When it is bitterly cold out, we definitely have our go-to pieces. Having the correct clothing to battle the elements often means the difference between us going out on a training ride or bowing out and staying indoors. Giro continues their well thought-out line of winter apperal with the Chrono Expert Thermal Bib Tight and we have loged some serious mileage in them.

One of our favorite features of these tights is the windblock center panel. It kept us plenty warm while still allowing for a certain souplesse in our legs that we normally don't get from tights containing a stiffer windblocking membrane. Italian thermal fabric pampered our legs and the DWR treatment kept of legs dry despite wheel spray from slushy roads. Three mesh cargo pockets add additional storage for extra garments or food so often needed in cooler conditions.

Reflective logo and highlights make motorists take note of heroic efforts while riding in fleeting light. Chrono CyTech Expert chamois had us pedaling in comfort from the first pedal stroke to the last. Ankle zips allow for easy install and removal especially with thicker, winter socks. About the only thing we could complain about with these tights from Giro is that they don't wash themselves between rides.

  • Wind-blocking center panel blocks the chill
  • Ankle zips allow for a snug fit and easy on and off
  • Chrono CyTech Expert Chamois adds comfort during the long miles
  • Water-resistant coating keeps tights and legs dry
  • Mesh cargo pockets adds extra storage

Pretty near perfect

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I am eager to see how they do in the real cold, but they were great for my 50 degree ride. As the description above suggests, the nicest thing is that they are warm but don't bunch behind the knees. And, unlike another thermal set I have, they seem to block the wind well around the groin. As I saw in a review elsewhere, do be aware that they are a bit slicker than many other shorts/tights.
