A refreshing addition.
We've been admiring Giro's thoughtful take on graphics for its 2016 apparel line, and its Chrono Expert Women's Jersey is no exception. Rich, summery hues and clean patterning make the Chrono Expert Jersey a refreshing addition to a warm-weather training wardrobe.
As it's situated in the middle of Giro's line of jerseys, the Chrono Expert was treated to details pioneered on Giro's higher-end kit, but with a slightly more moderate price point. This means its received the same elegant collar and form-fitting race cut as the Chrono Pro, with a moisture-wicking polyester construction aimed at keeping you cool and dry in the saddle.
A full-length zipper leaves room to add ventilation as you ride, while the smooth, flat arm cuffs stay in place without the need for elastic or silicone, lending the jersey a lighter feel overall. Three standard rear pockets in the back along with a zippered security pocket round out the Chrono Expert's pragmatic, trend-setting design.
- Q & A
Coffee Ride Comfy
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
The only thing that really matters is how comfy this jersey is. So comfy. The fabric is super soft and lightweight without being so light that you risk getting sunburn through your jersey, and the non-elastic hems just add to that comfort. And the colorways look even better in person than in the photos.
On fit, the cut falls somewhere between what I'd consider race fit and club fit - it's streamlined enough to not bunch or obviously catch wind but at the same time not tight or restrictive anywhere. It sits comfortably without any stretch when standing, and the fabric has just the right amount of stretch that it doesn't pinch at all when riding.
Pockets usually aren't worth mentioning, but these are - they're deep enough to hold a Plus-sized phone and have enough space to carry arms warmers, snacks, ID, a small toolkit, and anything else necessary for an afternoon of riding. Women's kit is notoriously devoid of useful pocket space, so this jersey definitely stands out on this spec alone. Giro opts for a horizontal zipper on the fourth pocket (also, a fourth pocket!), which I prefer over the usual vertical zippers b/c I don't have to worry about it accidentally unzipping (or me forgetting to zip it) and dropping keys and such out on the road.
Overall, a versatile jersey that'll comfortably handle anything from easy neighborhood coffee spins to double centuries in the mountains.
