Force vs. object.
Layering for early winter rides can be tricky, because it takes a balance of breathability and protection to get the ride just right. Layering for deep winter cycling is a no-brainer, though: protection is key, and everything else is secondary. The Giordana Men's Fusion Winter Jacket is among our top go-to items when the winter weather becomes as extreme as our spring and summer racing ambitions. We can't afford to miss those base miles, regardless of what the forecast has dialed up, so it helps us become an unstoppable force in the face of winter's immovable object.
The Fusion Winter Jacket represents Giordana's most protective technologies but in a fit that's friendly to layering than the super-slim kit in the brand's AV line. It's made from a 3-layer, windproof, DWR-treated membrane that keeps the winter elements out of your body's microclimate.
The inner face is brushed for low-loft insulation that warms without excessive bulk, leaving plenty of room to add base layers as the temperature falls to January levels. This is extreme protection, so it may be too much for hammering through autumnal hill repeats, but it does strike the ideal balance for long, low-intensity base miles in the depths of winter.
The jacket is finished with an extended collar and three deep, open pockets. The outside pockets are both slanted for easier access while your sense of touch is impeded by windproof gloves, and an additional zippered pocket adds a secure storage option. While we touched briefly on the fit above, it's worth calling out again that—unlike Giordana's summer race kit—the Fusion Winter Jacket is cut with a fit that accommodates relatively heavy layering and a few extra holiday pounds.

- Q & A
What is the fabric?
Stretchy with room for layers
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Large
This is a great option for winter riding to put in some base miles in the unfriendly cold. A medium fit me perfectly and the elasticity of the jacket allows for layering up underneath. Lots of flexibility and mobility with this jacket creating comfort. The fit of the jacket is relaxed and less of a race fit than Giordana’s AV lineup, but far from a loose/flappy fit. The Fluo Yellow/Black color is super sharp looking especially in the back. I like how the outside pockets in the back are angled making it easier to reach into, which can be difficult when wearing a heavy winter glove with poor dexterity. The zipper in the middle pocket is a nice feature too. The pockets are pretty tall so there is plenty of room to throw objects in your back. The outside membrane is DWR treated so it has a degree of water resistance to protect from rain. For somebody looking to get a stretchy jacket that allows for layering up and putting serious hours in the cold, give this jacket a try.

I picked up this jacket for one of my boys recent MTB races and to also use while training on the road. I have used Giordana product for 20+ years and the fit and finish on the Fusion jacket is the quality I have come to know form Giordana.
My son's races are typically at the majority of ski resorts here in Utah, and the race I got this for was in the mid-40s. While he only used this initially to start warming up, he was very happy that i had it in my backpack once he crossed the finish line! It didn't take more than a minute or two for him to realize how nice a jacket this is. It did a great job of keeping him warm and maintaining breathability.
The jacket does a great job of shedding water, and the added visibility makes me feel better when he is out riding alone.
I bought him a medium and it's just a touch big, but it allows him to wear a baselayer, and jersey underneath and give him room to grow.
