Zed Binding Brake

  • Pair of ski binding brakes designed for G3's Zed
  • Easy installation or removal with a Pozi #3 screwdriver

Failure Point

Adding an additional photo detailing the weak point on these brakes - still should not release from the heelpiece after such a failure!

    Failure Point

Flimsy and Dangerous - Poor Construction

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These (115mm size) failed me on only my fifth day of use, skiing them on mellow terrain inbounds during a routine ejection. And the best part is that because of limited skiing due to COVID, I'm out of the one-year warranty period to have them replaced for being defective! Yay!

I'm glad the failure happened inbounds, because it could have been horrible in consequential terrain, sending my brakeless ski rocketing downslope and the cracked brake in the other direction. The brake itself relies too much on flimsy plastic connections, and cracked at a weak spot - the plastic bit connecting the spring loaded section to the heel pad.

I honestly love the bindings and have the Zed on both of my touring skis. But now I am hesitant to buy a replacement brake or use the functional brakes on my other set, inbounds or in the backcountry. These should hold up to a routine ejection!!!

Flimsy and Dangerous - Poor Construction

    they do the job well

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I like skiing with a brake, I like that the design of the Zed lets the user choose. On some reviews you'll notice people complaining about the rattle, but, they don't explain much. The brake can rattle a bit while the binding is not engaged. But, when you step in to decent, or take your first step on ascent, the brake is secured down and works perfectly.

One of G3's engineers, Simon, shows us how to install the ZED Removable Brake. The next evolution of of backcountry skiing!
