The lightness.

The cross-country Ascent line comes closest of all of Fox Racing's off-road kit to mimicking the slim minimalism of road kit. Given that, it's not necessarily surprising that the Ascent Glove is the brand's lightest, most minimalist long-finger glove. Even the branding and cuff are minimized, with Fox forgoing its usual moto-inspired branding and coverage in favor of simple block letters and abbreviated, mid-wrist coverage.

We should note that, in this case, minimalist construction doesn't mean substandard—in fact, the opposite is true. The Ascent's body is made from Lycra, and the palm is 100% goatskin, a combination that rides light, protects your palms, and keeps bar feel on-point.

  • A lightweight glove for premium XC performance
  • Lycra body sits slim while providing full-finger coverage
  • Leather palm is durable, protective, and doesn't impede bar feel
  • Thermally conductive thumb and index finger for touchscreen operation

Great glove but doesn't wash well

I love the Fox Racing Ascent glove for cross country riding because it manages sweat and heat well and the leather palm gets OUTSTANDING grip. Like, really one of the best gloves I've ever used.

Unfortunately there's a big BUT. They palms started to stiffen and crinkle up after 4-5 washes. The packaging actually says not to wash them, but not sure how that's going to work after dusty 6 hour rides.

So the bottom line is that I desperately want these to work, and maybe I'm just washing them wrong, but I wouldn't buy another pair.

    Awesome glove for cool weather

    • Fit: True to size

The fit and feel for this goatskin glove is awesome for road/cx/mtb riding in 50 degree temps. The feel starts to fade quickly with too much moisture or sweat.

In my experience, leather gloves don't wash well. The leather drys out and becomes brittle. Can anyone comment on how they wash? Thanks!

You don't...rinse w mild hand soap and dry flat.

    Stick like velcro

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Traditionally I've been very picky on my gloves and always searching for the lightest and thinnest gloves available. I've been putting the Ascent gloves through the ringer for a few months now and they are definitely my go-to glove to wear day in and day out. The leather palm has been very durable, more so than I expected, and feels like velcro on my grips. Ventilation seems adequate for the job and never feel the need to take them off due to hot hands. I haven't had a ton of experience with them in wet conditions to comment on how well they perform there. A bit expensive, but unmatched comfort and performance in my opinion.

    Feelin' Fancy

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

Background: I have used these for the past couple months. I have worn them on light trail rides and full days at the bikepark (whiteface/killington/mountain creek)

Pros: I have never been invited to a ball or fancy enough party that requires people to where those pretty gloves with their tuxedos, but if I ever am, I think I could where these; they are aesthetically beautifully. If you are a fan of lightweight gloves that don't impend bar feel, then these gloves could be for you. The leather palm is thin but durable and has not deteriorated in any sense after multiple rides and wash cycles.

Cons: In the words of Bon Jovi's classic album, these gloves are "Slippery When Wet". I haven't had issues with sweat, but in rainy conditions the leather becomes a bit slick.

Regardless, these are some of my favorites gloves.
