Fjallraven Greenland Insulated Parka - Women's

Stay warm whether it's half time or you're halfway done with your (winter) trip.

You're cross-country skiing across Canada's Northwest Territories in a never-ending quest to capture the aurora borealis on film. Or you're being dragged to a playoff game in late December (shouldn't football be over by now?)  Either way, the Fjallroven Women's Greenland Insulated Parka ensures that you don't have to worry about perspiration-produced shivers or skimpy warmth.

Durable though technical G1000 Silent fabric lets sweat vapor escape, wards off wind, and can keep quiet under pressure, unlike your little sister. Tiny pores in the fabric strike the balance between breathable and resistant to create a shell for high-energy (or low output) activities; the pores are bigger than sweat vapor, so excess heat and moisture can escape from your body, but the pores are smaller than water droplets, so when it starts to spit, you don't get wet. You can enhance this parka's innate water-resistance by applying extra coats of Greenland Wax.

Polyester insulation adds warmth to this heavy-duty parka to give you layering options. When the weather is sunny, a bit breezy, or tad chilly, this Parka is all you'll need to stay warm throughout the entire game, since your partner insists upon being there for kick-off. If the weather report calls for gale-force winds and skin-freezing windchills, there is ample room underneath the Greenland Parka for a hefty fleece, fisherman's sweater, or a slim-fitting down jacket.

The lengthy hem hits below your hip, and the hood flips up for when the snow sprinkles start coming down. Six sizable pockets adorn the outside of the coat, so you can bring along a camera, energy bars, an extra hat, several maps, and flask, and still not have packed anything in your purse or backpack.

  • G1000 Silent fabric, water and wind resistant
  • 100% polyester insulation
  • Relaxed fit, hits below the hip
  • Hood
  • Six external pockets
  • Two internal pockets

Good looking and Love The Length!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great jacket but runs large! Love the way it looks! Would be better worn in fall weather or warmer winters, as it is not made for super cold winters.

The material is great, the model is great, however, be informed, that this is not very warm parka as you can assume from the description. It's a lightly insulated parka for a cold autumn or for a warm winter around 0'C. +-5degrees.

My wife usually wearing L and this one runs true to size.

Wood You Look At It?

Moving slabs of wood around...totally normal.

GORG!

BEAUTYMOUS!

  • Size Bought: Small

I tested this out for a week while road tripping to Jackson Hole.

I'm wary of styles like this because they often overwhelm my smaller frame making me look startlingly similar to a chipper sack of potatoes. I didn't feel that was the case with this Greenland Parka. Despite the generous insulation I felt it left me with a nice silhouette and I found the length to be great.

I am 5'3" and 120 lbs and the size small worked beautifully.

The hood was large and in charge, protecting me from the windy Wyoming climate. Generously sized pockets were perfect for keeping hands cozy while strolling around town after skiing.

I'm a big fan of the sheerling look because it's both fetching and ultra cozy.

I was simply testing this out but I'm very tempted to buy my own. It's a worthy investment in my eyes. This is the first piece of Fjallraven product I've tried and I'm ready to give it a stamp of approval. Nice construction, solid heft to the fabric and dialed fit.

great function, not the best fit, sorry to return it.

Super pleased

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I ordered this parka in black, in a small while it was on sale (I'm 5'6", 115 lbs). However, after waiting for a month while it was backordered, I was informed that backcountry would not be receiving any more jackets in the small size. I decided to try an extra small (after reading the previous review about it running large) and although it was no longer on sale, backcountry was awesome enough to honor the initial sale price. The parka is lightweight, warm and flattering! The xs fits really well but is a bit snug when worn with bulky layers. Depending on how you like your jackets to fit I would say you could stick to your size OR size down. Overall I'm very pleased with both the jacket and backcountry's stellar customer service!

Pretty and practical

I followed the previous reviewer's advice and was disappointed. I am usually a 0 /XS/25-26 jeans. So I sized down to an XXS which was much too tight, maybe would fit a 00 or someone with a straight build. I could not zip over my hips and found the sleeves tight. Beyond having the wrong size I can say this jacket is beautiful, a nice blend of a feminine cut and practical features. Feels well made. Versatile without looking generic. Navy blue is pretty.

***Order ONE FULL SIZE down***

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large

Fjallraven runs ONE FULL SIZE large. A full size. For real. Order one size down.
