Why We Like The Abisko Lite Trekking Pants

From time to time, the most splendid adventures can be found in the most unlikely of places. Built to embark upon the bushwack of a lifetime or the road less taken, the Fjallraven Abisko Lite Trekking Pants bring us premium performance and paramount comfort in those otherwise hairy yet exhilarating situations.

Constructed with the durable, stretchy G-1000 fabric, these pants have strategic mesh ventilation that encourages cooling temperature-regulation, along with lower cuffs that are furnished with rugged G-1000 HeavyDuty to keep clingy brush and rocks at bay. Not to mention, the Abisko is fashioned with an articulated cut that comes complete with pre-shaped knees and rear as well as a higher-cut rear waistband that discourages that unsavory exposed sensation while squatting or wearing a pack.

Nice and lightweight - yet sturdy

My recommended size was 29" (based on my age I guess: 60) and I wish I would have stuck with my instinct that 27-28 would have been fine as my others are this size and 27 is my size in general. They are a little big on me. But I love them so I will keep them (27-28 OoS anyway). They are perfectly lightweight and "breezy" easy to move around in. I LOVE the side vents. I have a few other pants - the Keb curved and the Vidda Pro - both heavier and more suitable for cooler temps; I needed a warmer weather pair of trousers and these will be perfect. The buckwheat color is different, pretty.

Wish it gave more freedom of movement

Great trousers for warm weather walking, great quality material and great ventilation in summer. Never felt too warm in them on hot summer days. Served as a great walking/camping trouser. But trekking in elevation was a real struggle, gave very little stretch when elevation increased and felt the trousers were really holding me back at the thighs, whenever I tried to climb over rocks.

More loose than Keb, but good quality and comfortable

I ordered these hoping to find a lightweight option to wear instead of my Keb (which I love dearly). I'm a 34 EU, thin shape, and these unfortunately were too large on me in the hips/waist/thighs (whereas the keb fits like a glove). The next size down is out of stock but if you are a thin person, you may want to consider sizing down! Sad I can't enjoy these pants as they really seemed perfect otherwise.

New favorites

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have a pair of Keb trousers that I wear constantly in the winter, and hoped for a similarly functional, comfortable pant that would be more comfortable when it's hot. These were comfortable backpacking in 80* weather, thanks to the lighter fabric and side vent zips - and then I appreciated the ability to lock everything down and close the gaiters at the bottom once we got higher up and hit snow. They're a little higher waisted than the Kebs, which was great for the waistband to be above (not directly under) where the hipbelt for my pack sits. The color is probably closer to orange than red, a little bit off from the model photo. I love Fjallraven pants because they stand up to anything...I don't worry about catching them on something and tearing them, I can fall in the snow and stay dry, sit on whatever surface and feel protected and not clammy. They're definitely an investment but I'd highly recommend them!

Worth one in every color

These are among my favorite trousers... lightweight, incredibly flexible, and long length with built in adjustments at the ankle for preventing debris and bugs so you don't have to wear extra heavy gaiters on hot summer days. Reinforced front panels to protect from brushy trails and bushwhacking but light and flexible behind the knees to keep from overheating. Fabulous quick dry helps keep me moving in every condition. Great for spring/summer/fall... but that slightly larger fit also allow for a base layer in light winter conditions. I love that there is flexible fabric integrated into all the jointed areas (knees, hips, crotch) to help with flexibility and heat/temperature control. These trouser move WITH me... not against me. Fabulous fit (I stick true to size).

Perfect for fall hikes

Super comfortable trousers right out the gate. After morning chill when the sun came out, side vents were perfect for cooling off. I usually wear size 8, purchased size 40 which is a great fit and length (I’m 5’4, 154 lbs, not curvy). Particularly with the combo of cooler temps and rigorous activity I’m certain I’ll be able to wear these often during the upcoming wetter months, especially taking advantage of further waterproofing them as needed.

everyday style and fit with technical features

These are similar to the Keb Trouser in materials, but with a lighter waxed cotton mixed with the breathable stretch sections. A looser fit overall, but the streamlined design keeps them low profile and less fussy while keeping the weather resistance and breathability, making them an outdoor favorite with indoor comfort.

A little big...

I found that these trousers ran large. Definitely size down for this style.

A light/cool option to protect against elements

I find these trousers to be my favorite option for a walk/hike on a warm-hot day. The pant is extremely breathable and water repellant at the same time. The stretch material in the gusset/behind the knees allows for great freedom of movement. Although I haven't personally tested out this feature, the pant is designed with ripstop stitching as well, which means if you get caught or pricked by something while on your trek, only one tiny square of fabric in the leg should rip and any further tearing would be prevented. My favorite part about these super lightweight pants is the side venting zips. I recently went for a hike in Sedona, AZ to the Devil's Bridge and the zips helped me immensely when I heated up. It was about 75-80 degrees in the sun and we were ascending up the mountain. I started to sweat and wonder if I should've worn shorts but then I remembered the side vent zips and they made all the difference. I was extremely glad for this as the beginning of the hike was chilly so I really didn't want to wear shorts just for the short time that I knew I'd heat up. Not to mention- it was a little buggy and the pants offered protection on that front as well. Fit wise- I'm 5'5" and 110 lbs- I have a slim/straight build. I wear size 36 EU or 27"-28" in the waist. I chose the Sand color as it is a light color in the sun and it can pretty much match up with any of my layers on top. I live in Boston and find this pant to be greatly water repellant on my walks to and from work in the rain as well. My partner also has a pair and feels that they run longer than most of our women's trousers. She is 5'10" and 150-155 lbs., her inseam is 34". She wears these trousers in EU 42 or waist size 32"-33". Generally she has a really hard time finding women's trousers that fit her length-wise but these are perfect in length.
