Fi'zi:k Volta R1 Snake Saddle

Slither like a snake

It's a simple fact, snakes slither. Their spines are highly flexible and uninhibited movement is natural. Fi'zi:k uses the Snake, in its Spine Concept Fit System, to describe the cyclist who is not defined by one movement. A rider who is categorized as a snake not only moves continuously on the saddle, they also create power by allowing their hip and back muscles to assist their pedal stroke. The Volta R1 is Fi'zi:k's first U-shaped saddle specifically designed to enhance a snake's movement.

The Volta R1 is a long 290mm. This provides plenty of fore and aft positioning to engage necessary muscles for both sprints and well as extended climbs. However, it is the transverse section of the saddle that requires a close look. Unlike traditional saddles, which have a flatter paddle design, the Volta is essentially U-shaped. It provides support for sit bones, but at the same time, the curved design means that hips joints and lower back muscles move freely. Additionally, the shell was designed using Fi'zi:k's Wing Flex Technology. This allows the saddle to flex slightly downward in the critical area where the inner thigh contacts the saddle which means more efficient, full-range movement while pedaling.

At 160grams, the Volta R1 is the lightest of the Volta saddles. This is due to the braided carbon rails. They make for a 30gram savings in weight, which is almost 20% of the saddle's weight. They are constructed from braided carbon and then wrapped with another layer of carbon fiber cloth for even greater durability. This also gives them a rough surface at the clamp areas for added security. The rails are given added strength with an oval 9mm tall by 7mm wide section. The only thing to note is that the carbon rails are not compatible with Fi'zi:k's ICS system of saddle bags and lights.

The Fi'zi:k Volta R1 weighs 160grams and is available in White/white/grey and Black/black.
