Fi'zi:k Aliante R1 Saddle - 7x9 Carbon Braided Rails

The comfortable bull.

The Fizik Aliante R1 Saddle with Carbon Braided Rails is a lightweight and durable saddle that doesn’t sacrifice comfort. The Aliante R1 has been a favorite among every stripe of cyclist, which makes it the perfect choice if you’re searching for a new saddle type.

The Aliante R1 features Fizik’s Bull shape profile. The Bull saddle shape offers a saddle with a larger, deeper pocket to accommodate less flexible riders who rotate their pelvises forward when they ride. The R1’s body also includes the TwinFlex foundation, which offers a more forgiving interior to cushion your perineum with a stiffer outline to guarantee support. Fizik uses carbon-injected nylon for the R1’s TwinFlex body, making it considerably lighter than the R3 which uses glass fibers.

To save additional weight, Fizik uses braided carbon fiber for the R1’s rails. The braiding is tough as well, providing a new level of strength against both the clamping force of your seatpost and the load the saddle bears — making “rail failure” a thing of the past. To finish off the R1, Fizik uses a black Microtex cover that will keep your saddle looking good season after season.

I really wanted this to work out.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really wanted this saddle to work out. Long time Aliante user from the Gamma to the Team to the Versus, Versus X, and now R1 and R3. I first tried the R3, and it just didn't "fit" when I rode. Exchanged it for the R1, thinking the different shell materials might have the saddle ride differently; still didn't work out. The nose of the saddle has definitely gotten narrower, as I've done side by side rides with bikes with previous iterations. Out of the series, I favor the Versus X Carbon and just bought a second one to replace this Aliante R1. I'm running the Versus X with Kium rails on my cross bike as that bike isn't weight conscious. I definitely prefer the wider stance of the previous iterations, and the Versus X cutout really does relieve pressure from an over zealous chamois. The R1 just gives me epic wedgies after two 30mi rides.

Padding on the new R1 is much firmer tha

I've been riding on Aliante Saddles for years. I currently have the Aliante Versus saddle on my bikes. I thought I'd give the new R1 a try. Expensive mistake. The padding is much firmer. It's not even close to past Aliante saddles. Reminds me a little of the Specialized Romin.

Couldn't agree more. I have used several Aliante in the past and this is NOT the same saddle. The R1 is much stiffer and defeats the purpose of the older design. If you are looking for the comfort of the old Aliante, look elsewhere

I was "a Fi'zi:k" guy for years, then spent 6 years on another brand of saddle. 2015 brought a reunion for my rear end and Fi'zi:k...and let me tell you, I was a little apprehensive. This fear was unwarranted. Saddle mounted, numbers measured, it was like I never left home. Fear not, change, for the only change we really need worry about is that which comes from within. Switching saddles ain't no thang.

Wow... the best saddle just got better!

Round of applause to Fizik with their new design of my all time favorite comfort/performance saddle. This is my 2nd Aliante in 5yrs and the new design is incredible. Its super supportive and game changing. Love it! Never going with any other brand. Get on a Fizik, you won't regret it.
