Living Legend.

The Five Ten Dragon Lace-up Climbing Shoe has likely seen more cutting-edge first ascents than any shoe ever made and has earned its place as the go-to choice for many of the world's most talented rock climbers—think Dave Graham, Fred Nicole, and Ty Landman. The down-turned Stealth HF rubber outsole provides the power and sensitivity for some of the worst footholds imaginable, and the lace closure provides a second-skin fit.

  • Durable Cowdura upper provides next-to-skin comfort and a glove-like fit
  • Lace closure provides the precise fit ideal for high-difficulty rock climbs
  • Aggressively down-turned profile allows you to pull into the rock on steep routes and boulder problems
  • Dragon Stifner in the midsole provides powerful edging performance without compromising sensitivity
  • Super sticky Stealth HF rubber is specially formulated to perform on overhanging rock

5 months later they fit and it's amazing

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Sizing is definitely funky, was able to get these for free from my school, brand new despite very little use from students. After a rinse in the shower and 2 months of climbing they fit like a glove and are absolutely incredible from heels, smearing, to edging

Best Bouldering Shoes!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I love these shoes, the softer stealth rubber makes you stick to anything! and can be the difference in sending your project. the tight fit makes them great for toeing in while not getting any slips or dead spot in the heel. wider toe box makes them great for wider foot individuals. I will say the sizing is a bit weird, I'm a 9.5 street shoe and wear a size 11 and they are very snug. Be sure to try on several pairs going up in sizing.

Comment about sizing is right on. I wear a size 10 street shoe, a size 41 in la sportiva solutions (womens), and a size 11 in these.

Great Technical Shoe

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

This is definitely not an intro shoe or for those wanting a comfortable fit right out of the box. These aggressive shoes perform well in Joe's Valley or the gym.

I wear a women's 6/36 eu and ended up in a women's 8/39 eu. They fit like a glove, but just a warning, the initial break in period is very uncomfortable.

For the technical

I love these shoes. Even though the break in is not pleasant. Great heel, edge bolt holes in the gym if you wanted to. But be ware, they run really small. My street shoe is 10.5-11. My VCS and Mocs I sized a half size down at the 10.5 and they fit perfectly. I tried the 10.5 in the dragons and that was a mistake. Chinese foot binding contraption at that size. I wanted an aggressive over hung performance shoe so I stuck with the 11s, but you should really half size up at the very least. I can only put them on, give it a try then I have to take them off before it hurts too much to walk. Summary: shoe size and up is a starting place.

    Durable

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I've been wearing these shoes for more than a year and they are still in great shape. I've been climbing 2-4 times per week, mainly in the gym and the shoes still look and feel great. I sized them pretty small so they still hold their shape really well.

nice shoes, but the size is strange.

    • Fit: Runs small

You can not image what happened on my shoes. I' ve bought 3 times, they all dragons. the first shoes is 9.5, it was really small, so i returned them back. The second one is 11. Still small and create hot spot......... So i returned them again. Then, the final one is 13,, actually it is still not really fit on me, but it is better than last one, and i can not choose a new size more than 13!!! Funny things is my street shoes are EU43.5.......but this 13 equal EU47, still a little bit small.

    Size up

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 13

According to the foot sizing devices in stores I am a size 12 mens with a AA width (narrow). I ordered and tried out a size 12, then 12.5 and finally a size 13 which is the size I stayed with. 1 full size larger than street shoe.
    {{{ I've seen a lot of people say get your street shoe size or 1/2 larger. But I've also seen a couple other people with my shoe have to go a full size up. maybe it's something messed up in five ten's sizing, I don't really know. }}}
Size 13 is, after break in, where I don't feel like I'll break a toe if I fall on a crash pad. Nice and tight with curled toes but not foot binding.

    Great at edging.

    Pretty solid

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

My climbing gear got stolen last year... but I was secretly not very angry because I wanted to get new shoes anyway :) I had been wearing Solutions for a while and wanted to try some 5.10s again. I had previously owned the black-wings but those flattened out and got sloppy on me pretty fast. These have been great and have maintained their shape. I got the same size as my street shoes essentially. They were pretty painful at first, but now that are perfect. I have never laced them up... they fit like a glove. They don't have quite the strength or that little something extra that Solutions have that makes you feel like you can send pretty much anything, but they have been great shoes. Living up to the legend so far.

    Dragons

Great shoe for overhangs or gym climbing, super sensitive and technical. Probably not the best shoe for edging, but it still can. I would recommend going a half size up. I wear an 11.5 street shoe and a 12 fit me pretty tight.

              Great Shoes for Hard Stuff

              • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
              • Fit: True to size

I keep these shoes for my "send" attempts. Great fit and the aggressive angle gives me a big advantage when my mocks can't cut it.

              Bouldering in Dragons

                Bouldering in Dragons

                Five Ten Dragons

                • Familiarity: I've used it several times
                • Fit: Runs large

When I first got my Dragons, they were almost unwearable but as they broke in they became comfortable without losing their high performance. They excel on anything from roofs (where you have to pull you toe down into holds) to Technical face climbing.
However, they are extremely soft (More then the La Sportive Pythons) This lets them down when you are trying to edge in on tiny footholds. They are however great for smearing.

Great Shoes. Poor CS from Five Ten.

                • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
                • Fit: True to size

I have owned many, many pairs of climbing shoes over the years, and these are my absolute favorite for anything past vertical. Great, snug fit, all the way through the heel, and just enough volume in the toe box. Very nice downturn with enough flexibility for slabby topouts.

Unfortunately, my last pair started delaminating all over both shoes. The rand just started pulling off of the leather. I sent them to Five Ten, and they refused to warranty the shoes, despite the fact that the failure was obviously a defect in materials and/or workmanship. I don't know if their quality control has just gone downhill, or if it's a fluke, but $165 is a lot of money to spend on any shoe, especially a defective pair of climbing shoes. I've owned over 50 pairs of Five Ten climbing shoes over the years, and this is the first pair that has ever failed like this. I haven't decided yet if I'll give these shoes another shot, or move on to another company that hopefully has better QC and stand behind their product.

Five stars for the shoes, if they don't fall apart, one star for my last pair, and an F for Five Ten customer service.

For the record, any time a shoe gets too hot (like being left in a car on a sunny day) the adhesives in the shoe begin to release. This happened to me a couple times, including both before and after a resole (not dragons) and it is not the manufacturer's fault. any climbing shoe would do this if it got too hot. Maybe this case was different, maybe not, but it's doubtful that any manufacturer would really take a delamination too seriously, and if they do, it's just because they don't want anyone posting reviews like this.
