Shelter from the storm.

The Filson Men's Cover Cloth Mile Marker Jacket keeps you warm and dry through driving rain and whipping winds with its tightly woven, two-ply cotton cover cloth shell treated with a water and wind-resistant paraffin-based wax. The jacket's body features a supple, ultra-comfy cotton lining; the collar and hand pockets use moleskin lining for an even softer feel directly against your skin.

To keep the elements from seeping into your jacket, the two-way brass zipper is reinforced with a storm flap, and the drawcord waist and adjustable snap cuffs further ensure that moisture stays out. In addition, this jacket is compatible with Filson zip-in vest liners (sold separately) and the Filson Cover Cloth Hood (sold separately) for added versatility in cold weather and all-day downpours.

Great coat, terrible fit

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

I ordered this coat because I've been looking for *years* for a good replacement for a limited-run LL Bean waxed cotton barn coat that now is old enough to drink legally in the United States. The sizing guide recommended a medium but I first went small based on the reviews by folks half a foot taller than me who stated that a large was the right size for them ... that was an obvious mistake the moment I tried it on, and totally my fault, so I ordered a medium and returned the small.

I find it hard to believe that this product is an Alaskan fit as advertised. It's still tight in the arms and in the chest with even a light sweater, and a zip-in liner would render it downright uncomfortable. Back it had to go as well. Going to a large is out of the question since then the sleeves would be ridiculous, so unfortunately I guess Filson is not going to be the answer to my search. And it's a shame. The coat appears wonderfully-made and otherwise with a liner would be nearly identical to the old jacket.

Incidentally, a thread on reddit ( states that Filson has said that the jacket no longer comes in different sizes and that all of them are basically Seattle fits. If that truly is the case, I'm seriously annoyed that I had to pay return shipping to Backcountry twice for a jacket that does not match the description on the site, and that I would not have ordered.

Pocket tore putting hand in it

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I owned the jacket for around 6 weeks until the pocket tore when I put my hand in it on day leaving a tear that started at a seam.

After shipping the jacket back to Filson, the customer service rep told me he also found many areas with loose threading. I did not want a repair done due to the ease of the tear as well as the description from the CSR.

Filson then informed me they would not do any sort of reimbursement or exchange whatsoever despite this being an obvious defect in manufacturing.

This was my first and will be my last time purchasing any Filson product. A true test of any manufacturer is how they handle their own mistakes and Filson has failed this miserably.

Great review. This was my initial impression however I could not find anyone that would dare say anything bad about Filson. Appreciate the honesty.

Very nice jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I recently purchased this jacket for spring time trips to Lake Tahoe, Napa Valley, San Francisco and Park City. It was a little snug when I zipped the wool liner in at night, but it really provided a lot of warmth and comfort both with and without the liner. I'm 6-00, 190, wear a 16.5x35 dress shirt and 34x32 pants and the Large fit me well. Great light-weight jacket that serves a dual role when you zip in the wool liner on cooler nights. The customer service provided by Ms. Jenson @ Back Country has been exceptional!

David, thanks for posting review for the community. It is so helpful. Thanks for the shout out, as well. It's been a pleasure working with you!

Great jacket; Seattle Fit is tight

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I've been waiting to get this jacket for a while and finally pulled the trigger. Reading the descriptions, the Seattle fit sounded perfect for me. Unfortunately, when it arrived, I found it very restricting and uncomfortable under the arms. I ordered an Alaska fit and it was perfect without being baggy. The Seattle fit zipped up felt so long and snug, I felt wrapped in a tube. Unless you're a really thin guy, I think Alaska fit would better suit most people. Great jacket, though.
