X5 Terra Suede Cycling Shoe

The Fi'zi:k X5 Terra Suede Cycling Shoe is a tough, light, and versatile off-road shoe that combines the performance features you expect from Fi'zi:k with sharp-looking suede uppers for an ultra-supple feel and a unique look out on the trail. They're a great choice for gravel enthusiasts, everyday trail riders, and XC fanatics looking for an excellent fit at a good value.

Compared to the Terra X5 with synthetic Microfiber uppers, this suede version offers extra breathability and enhanced comfort thanks to the pliant characteristics of the natural material. The shoe still offers resistance to cuts or abrasions out on the trail, as well as a water-repellent treatment to protect the material, but you'll enjoy the superior feel of wrapping your foot in supple suede goodness.

The closure system uses a Boa L6 dial that tightens the uppers to your exact liking, plus there's a lower strap to keep your forefoot securely held in place under power. Delving under the shoe, you'll find a co-injected sole of carbon and TPU, which provides an ideal blend of pedaling efficiency and flex, seeing you'll be dismounting over technical trail sections and walking your bike more than in a racier shoe. Aggressive traction lugs fully encompass the sole, so you'll have confidence-inspiring grip, regardless if the trail is comprised of slickrock, packed dirt, gravel, or thick mud.

  • Versatile off-road shoes with classy suede uppers
  • Suede offers extra breathability and enhanced comfort
  • Laser-perforated holes along upper for cooling airflow
  • Reinforced toe and heel for improved abrasion resistance
  • Boa L6 dial closure provides a micro-adjustable fit
  • Lower hook-and-loop strap secures your forefoot down
  • Co-injected sole of carbon and nylon for efficiency
  • Aggressive traction lugs maintain non-slip grip

Solid shoe, but narrow

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Well made, well priced shoe, solid boa lacing, solid platform, but unfortunately just too narrow for my medium-to-moderately-wide foot.

Good fit for a low volume foot

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 42.5

I buy shoes for fit first. This shoe fits my low volume foot with a narrow heel well. I tried a couple sizes 42 and 43 from Competitive Cyclist but neither fit well. I ended up ordering a 42.5 directly from Fizki. The toe box is wide enough not to cramp toes without being having so much volume to buckle when walking. The shoe has a good overlap configuration which provides good volume control without feeling compresses or sloppy.

I usual wear Specialized S-Works 42 for both road and mountain bike shoes but Specialized changed their shoe this year and it is a bust for me. These Fizki are not quite as light as the S-Works but fit matters first. They look well made.

For reference, I wear a 43 in Lake.

I bought these for mountain and gravel rides.

Great shoe period

  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 43.5

Have older pair of these shoes. Was just a little bit long They do run large length wise. So ordered new ones in slightly smaller size. I have narrow foot and shoe fits great. It is a bit more flexible than their higher priced models which makes it a better shoe for me for running in cyclocross races. I am quite happy with this shoe Best fit in a mountain bike shoe I have ever had and I have been riding mountain shoes for 40 years or so

Excellent shoe as far as I know

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I think these are great shoes for what they are. Meaning shoes which are close to hard shoes like the guys use for racing, but still flexible enough to walk around. And the cleat is recessed so you can hardly hear it clack when you're walking on the street holding your bike. The tread is really aggressive and I can see how people would use these shoes for grabbing through mud. Very aggressive tread. I wear typically size 11.5 sneakers and the size 44.5 was just 1/8 inch too small, and the size 45 the same amount too large. I would have kept the shoe anyway and just a slightly thicker sock. Nevertheless I'm returning the shoe because I really don't like the style (color combination). The BOA lacing system is most excellent in my opinion. I have this on my Winter Mountaineering Boots and also my snowshoes. Quick and easy to tighten quickly and evenly as tight or loose as you want.

Solid and swaggy

Pretty dope, especially for the money. They are more comfortable and more breathable than my VR90’s. I was trying to avoid a shoe with a boa. It is hard to do these days. Super easy on and off. Reasonably stiff sole. Great colorway. Checks a lot of boxes. My only complaint is the boa. Peace
