Fi'zi:k R3B Uomo Boa Carbon Shoe - Men's

Powerful, comfortable, and built to do it all.

Fi'zi:k's R-Series runs the gamut from affordable everyday shoe to pro-ready race rocket, and the R3 Uomo Boa Men's Shoe nestles right in the middle, a better value than the R1 but with more race DNA than the R5. The first thing you'll notice is how clean the R3 is. It looks so good that you might be tempted to just keep it on the shelf and look at it every night before you go to sleep, kinda like you do with all your high-school public-speaking trophies. This might make you feel good, but you'll feel even better when you pull the smooth, soft, and supple Microtex upper onto your foot. It's durable but flexible, and covered with laser-cut perforations that help keep your feet from getting sweaty and soggy.

Even an upper that good needs some help, and Fi'zi:k obliged by hooking up a Boa IP1 dial closure, which cinches the Microtex around your foot without pinching or squeezing. It offers near-infinite adjustment, so you can truly fine-tune the fit, and the additional hook-and-loop strap at the forefoot lets you fiddle with the volume of the R3 for a slop-free fit. All this is built on the UD carbon-fiber sole that is nice and stiff to help you put plenty of power into the pedals without waste. On top of the sole sits a Fi'zi:k Cycling Insole, designed to work with the outsole to eliminate hot spots and provide cushioning where you need it most.

  • Laser-perforated seamless Microtex upper
  • Boa IP1 dial closure
  • Hook-and-loop forefoot strap
  • UD carbon-fiber sole
  • EVA insole with metatarsal pad

Best cycling shoe I ever bought.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 42.5

After all the great reviews I figured I’d take a shot. After all, with CC’s great return policy, what’s to lose 😉.
After cycling 10k miles/yr for the past decade I can honestly say I love this shoe. Permit fit! Normally I buy 43, but the 42.5 was priced lower by 100bucks, so I gave it a shot fits perfectly!! Feels like a slipper. That comfy! Ez to adjust on the fly. The insole has a small step under the metatarsal, so I don’t need my customized insoles to avoid burning sensation after 3hrs. Love these shoes.

Impressed. The shoes fit extremely well right out of the box. I have a "normal" , not narrow not wide, foot shape US size 11.5. Three other brands I wear are 45.5 for a proper fit. Bill at CC advised me to go with size 45. Nailed it. Three rides so far and no soreness or hot spots. They give me a seamless connection to the pedal and respond well out of the saddle. Forgot I was wearing new shoes ten minutes into the first ride. Two hours later they were still super comfy. White shoes can be tricky to clean. Tried many methods. Tub O Towels from O'Reilly auto parts is the best. See photo.

Great!!!

  • Fit: Runs large

After reading reviews of the R3B, I became interested. CC had a deal going so I bit the bullet. They arrived last night, I installed a pair of my Speedplay Zero's and did the 50 mile test run. BEST shoe I've ever ridden in. I'm not a racer, but I've averaged 10K miles/yr for nearly the past decade, so function and comfort are really important to me. The shoe is totally comfortable. I normally wear a 43, but some reviewers said or ran a tad large, so I got the 42.5 and it's perfect on me. The upper provides excellent ventilation. The carbon sole insures energy gets efficiently to the pedals. A little thing which I like is the insole has a slight buildup under the metatarsal. I've had to use a metatarsal button on my other insoles, so I'm hoping this insole eliminates that need. No burning or numbness today. One reviewer said he liked these so much that he'd like Fizik to make him a dress shoe. After 3 hrs in these I understand why he said that.

Good shoe if made in Italy

These shoes are well made, properly sized and fit like a glove if you are fortunate enough to get a pair that are made in Italy. If you get a pair made in China, all bets are off. For a fact, they are oversized - I cannot speak to the quality of the Chinese shoes.

Where can you buy replacement heal skid pads for these in the USA? I searched and did not find them?

Hi Christopher,

Replacement heel pads can be tough to come by for these shoes. The US distributor for Fizik, Highway Two, does not offer heel pads for us to purchase, however they've told me that from time to time they do have stock in which case I would suggest reaching out to them with photos to try to get replacements.

Kevin K, I have reached out to them but it would help if you could also. Seems like this would be a high margin product for you to offer clients.

Thanks

R3B's are a great shoe!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Have ridden Sidi Genius shoes for 20+ years. The various versions I've had are a very good shoe but I didn't know what I was missing until I just got my first pair of R3B's. As to sizing, I am a EU 43 in Sidi but got a 42 in Fizik and they are a perfect fit. The carbon soles are noticeably stiffer then those on my newest pair of Genius and have awesome power transmission. And the adjustability of the Boa is a great feature and makes the R3B super comfortable. This is not a knock on Sidi as they have been a great shoe. But after 2 rides in my Fiziks they are a great shoe for my feet. Highly recommend them.

Very comfortable if your heel will hold

Construction quality is great, and the shoes feel excellent when putting them on--the upper really hugs your foot. The small toe strap combined with BOA dial allows for a very comfortable fit that feels very secure, except for heel retention. It's worth caveating that everyone's foot is different and so not everyone may experience this, and I also did not install cleats, so heel slip may not be a problem on the bike. But on the latter point, it's a bit of a Catch-22 because returning shoes once the cleats have been installed might be more difficult. I had the original R3 before these, and the new model is much more comfortable overall (the original had a ridiculous amount of arch built into the last), but the heel retention issue is new for me.

I too have the older model r3 and they fit perfectly in a 46.5. Do you feel that with this new model I should downsize to 46 or?

Hi, curious if you're still getting the heel slip after many uses. I just received my size 42.5, which is what I wear in Specialized shoes (I wear US 9.5 in pretty much every shoe and sneaker), and there's a slight bit of heel slip (without installing cleats). CC doesn't have a size 42 available, but at the sale price, I may just end up keeping them. Thanks.

Great Fit, Super Light

These shoes are great. Perfect fit, super light and the boa system works well. I believe they run true to size and are not to narrow...

Very Optimistic

4 stars so far only because I have used for one ride. The power transfer is excellent and it is very comfortable! I am not sure about the breathability yet. There are plenty of perforations on the upper but no vents on the carbon sole. The BOA system works very well and can adjust to tighten and loosen the fit. Will most likely (as usual) swap out the insole with a specialized BG.
I am returning because one of the BOA dials is defective (cable running underneath the BOA fixture). The customer service at Competitive Cyclist is great as usual for sending a replacement pair and a shipping label for sending these back! Good job. Will provide update after more rides but this is definitely worth looking in to for an upper/mid range shoe.

Excellent shoe

After Specialized shoes for years, S-Works, Pro, I decided to try Fizik after reading the reviews. I ordered the same size I wear in Specialized and the fit is comparable, the shoe is very comfortable and I like the classic look.

Great fit and finish. Boa system makes adjustment easy. Carbon bottom provides stiffness. However, don't walk too far on gravel or they will scratch. Without a doubt, one of the lightest shoes on the market.

Spectacular road shoes

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 42.5

25+yrs riding in shoes including Carnac, Rocket7 (semi custom), DMT, and others, can say these are some of the best straight out of the box. The high fit and finish are the first thing you notice. About 300 miles in and the shoes feel fantastic on my feet, light to spin, and these clearly helping to generate additional watts on both the flats and the climbs by rounding out my pedal stroke.

Heel lifts out of shoe

I'm a size 10-10.5 and the 43's fit great, except when I put pressure on the ball of my foot (off bike), my heel lifts a good inch out of the shoe. Even when super tight this still happens. Maybe just me, but going back to strap enclosures.

After wearing Sidi's for many years, was drawn to the lightweight, comfort inherent in the Boa closure system, and clean look - and these have lived up to my hopes/expectations!

What size Sidi do you wear. In between sizes usually.

Are these the 2015 or 2016 models? I noticed on the Fizik website that the 2016 have a black tongue paded area.

2016, i have a pair of 2015 ones and their insoles are white. The 2016 ones have black insoles.

    Good but not great

    I have used
sidi's for the last 20 years and thought I would give another brand a try since there were some things about my last pair I was not thrilled with. The fiziks are narrow for there size. If your foot is a eee like mine look elsewhere. If you run your hand on the inside if this shoe you will feel just how rough it is. The Sidi is so much smoother and your feet can feel the difference. However the worst part of this shoe at least for me is how high up the ankle collar comes on the inside. It does not have the same radius as the outside of the shoe so when you ankle it drives right into the skin above the ankle. It seems to be breaking in but it is annoying. On the bright side the closing system in great and easy to use on the fly. The shoe feels very stiff and is all business when you put the hammer down. The just aren't as comfortable as I had hoped

I bought the R3B to replace a pair of S works. They fit great out of the box. I love the white very simple classic look. The Boa provides secure hold and the shoes breath very well. The carbon sole is stiff and transfers power for me extremely well. I wold definitely recommend them. Great shoe and of course made in Italy.

I've been training and racing in these shoes for about 3 months now and they've been great. The length is a little off for me and I had to return a pair to get one that fits a little snugger. They look awesome. You can read my full review with photos here: http://atlantapeloton.com/blog/2015/8/5/fizik-r3-uomo-boa-shoes-review

I have a specialized expert road shoe size 45.5 how are these in comparison to the specialized shoes are they true to size? because normally i would be a 45 and spec u have to half size up...

Raz, you should be able to go with a size 45 here.
