Saddle up and ride.

The basic shapes of saddles tend to stay remarkably consistent, but that doesn't mean they can't be improved. Rather than relying on tradition, Ergon designed the SME3 Pro Saddle by computer mapping a whole lot of butts, basically, so it could optimize the shape of the of the saddle to provide support for your sit bones and space for your more sensitive areas. Elastic pockets under your sit bones provide flexible comfort without excessive padding, and multi-layered cushioning places padding only where you need it, so you don't lose pedal power to a squishy saddle.

Designed for enduro riders, the SME3 isn't just comfortable. It's fast and light, too, with a Y-flex carbon fiber shell and strong Tinox rails that provide just the right amount of flex. The Lorica cover is tough and easy to keep clean, and Ergon even coated the edges of the saddle with silicone to help stop if from chafing against your thighs. There's also a rubber underside, which is designed to make things more comfortable when you have to throw your bike over your shoulder to navigate downed trees or snowy patches.

Solid Saddle

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I threw this on my Niner Sir 9 and its treated me well. I honestly don't remember exactly my sitbone width so I just went with the medium and it fits fine. Hardtails can be rough on the behind after a fair amount of mileage, but had no issues with this!

I have noticed a bit of wear and tear on the left side, which is a bit of a bummer. I'm guessing its from putting it down on the left side, though there is a chance of it coming from the occasional crash (I'm only human, ok?!)

Vanity aside, I like the matchy matchy of being able to match my saddle with my Ergon grips.

If you're looking for a good trail saddle, look no further! Feel free to reach out if you do have any other questions on it and I'd be happy to help!

Best saddle I have found

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have this saddle on my mountain bike and I was building a new fat bike for the minimal winter we are having. Super comfortable for me, love it.

Still Love It

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Update to my review below. I've now used a color variety of this saddle on 3 different bike builds. I've logged 2000 plus miles across those bikes and have loved this saddle the whole time. My definite go to. Seems like a recurring them from other reviewers. Buy this saddle, ride it, get a new bike, buy this saddle again.

Fantastic

this is my second ergon saddle I have purchased in this model and I will buy another one for my next bike. I also here other models are great too but this is the one aimed towards my style of riding.

My favorite saddle

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my third Ergon saddle and second of this specific model. I've had success with their saddles and appreciate that they come in multiple widths. I fit well on a M. It's very comfortable and I can ride for a long time without any issues from being seated.

Really Comortable Saddle

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have this saddle on both of my mtn bikes and I really like it. It is pretty firm but does have some give to it, and it just fits me better than a lot of other saddles I've tried

Winging it

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Well, I hear good things and the Ergon name is known for comfort so I going to beat on this thing until one of breaks. Let the games begin

New Favorite

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

As a long time user of Specialized saddles on all of my bikes regardless of make, I had intended to put a Phenom on a new Niner XC build. Because of price and good reviews I decided to try the Ergon. Glad I did. I have a new favorite. Very comfortable and very light for the price. Helped me achieve my price/weight target for the build.

Solid Saddle

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Built up a new bike over the winter and went out on a limb and bought this saddle. I wanted to try something new and customize my sizing a little bit. I went with the medium based on my measurements as other reviews have mentioned. Once I got all the new bike tweaks out of the way and the saddle positioned where I needed it I realized I'd made a great decision on a comfortable, durable, and stylish saddle. Happy with my purchase and looking forward to many more miles of riding.

Awesome saddle!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've only used this saddle a few times, but right from the jump it was super comfortable. This is not a featherlight saddle for the weight weenies, but if you want a heavy duty saddle with ultra comfort, you can't go wrong with this seat.

How'd you size it?

I measured my sit bones and bought medium. http://bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/9815/is-it-possible-to-measure-your-sit-bones-at-home
