Grippy and Comfortable, Enough Said!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought these grips for a new enduro build, and althougth I was a little doubtful about the somewhat weird shape of the grip they've been working great! Only took a few minutes on the trails to get used to them. They're super grippy, with or without gloves, and they remained comfortable after several 2-3 hr rides. On all of my other bikes I run ESI Chunky grips and the difference is notable; after an extended descent with the GE1's my hands dont ache like they do with the ESI's. Grips are aslo pretty light-weight and definitely worth the price!

Grip it and Rip It!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

after a couple of trips to Moab i can safely say these are my new favorite grips! i have ridden the classic ergons for years on my townie bikes but they never felt right on the trail. the beauty of these is that the anatomical support is subtle. plus they cover the bar end so you dont have to run plugs. having almost gel like texture they really inspire confidence when the trail ramps up.

Comfort please!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After using grips that tore up my hands, I turned to these from Ergon. They are incredibly comfortable, even after 50 miles on the bike. I do agree with Davis that I don't feel quite as connected to the bar as with a thin, round grip. However, being able to feel my hands after a long ride is crucial so I run these on all my mountain bikes. Play with the positioning a bit on the first couple rides to really dial them in to your hand shape.

On the fence

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

2 rides in and I'm not sure if I am sold. They feel way different than any other grip I've had and they feel a bit bulky and make me feel less connected to the bike. I will provide a better update after I get some more rides in.

Save the hands!

Grips are impeccable and can make or break a day on the bike without even knowing it. I recently added these to my bike and have zero complaints so far!

Best of All Worlds

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Security of a lock-on grip, bar feel of a traditional round grip, subtle support benefits and improved grip from ergonomic profile. I've been using these for several seasons now and I don't see any reason to ride anything else.

Ergonomic grips

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

At first I was a bit unsure of these grips, being an asymmetrical shape and just never having used Ergon grips before. It took some playing around to find the orientation that offered the best comfort for my riding position. There are markings on the grips themselves that show you which direction they need to face, and what adjustment range you have. The teardrop shape really is quite comfortable even on longer rides, and the grips seem to last a long time. I'm impressed, would definitely buy again.

Work Well

Used these to replace some original grips. Installation and set up isn't difficult and so far, no hand numbness or fatigue after the first few uses. Happy with my choice.

Connected but comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Got these to replace the OEM grips on my Yeti, and sincerely do not regret it. They provide a much more natural shape and remove some of the more annoying trail chatter from your bones. Seem to be very durable, all while being super stylish. Which is obviously important.

Subtle Comfort

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Ergon GE1 grips may be the most comfortabe grips I have used on mountain bikes. They have a teardrp-shaped cross-section under the pointer and middle fingers, and flare out to a larger round diameter under the ring and pinky fingers. They put softer grip compounds in just the right places. the single alloy collar keeps them locked in place, without using any hard material outboard. thest grips are comfortable even if you ride at the very outside of the bar. the GE1 grips will be a great upgrade for any Mountain bike.

Favorite grips for my Bronson

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been running the Ergon ge1 grips for a few years now and really like their ergonomic shape and slightly larger feel compared to other, more basic lock-on grips. Durability has been superb and the single Allen bolt lock on has never given me trouble on my carbon bars. If you're looking for a nice, ergonomic grip that works well for everything from XC to freeride mountain biking, I highly recommend the Ergon GE1 Grips.

Love it!

Great grips. I just installed them and have ridden once. They felt very comfy on my hands. My hands have not fallen asleep at all since I purchased these.

Awesome comfort for my big hands, sticky as hell, never feels like my hands are slipping off (even with gloves on).

Comfy and secure

I've taken these on a few rides and like them so far. The grips haven't slipped at all yet despite having only one clamp on each grip.

My New Favorite

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Strangely enough this year, I started having issues with hand numbness this spring when on longer seated rides (long climbs). I switched from the Odi Ruffian lock ons to this grip and have not looked back. They're subtle in the ways they're different, but my hands are more comfortable, the numbness has gone away, and they're just as good when it comes to how well they grip. These things are the bomb.

Very comfortable

These are excellent grip, perfecto size. I use it with an Enve riser in a 5010. I use it for XC.

Very comfortable

How wide are the grips? Not the thickness, but the distance from one end to another. For instance, the Odi grips are all 130mm wide.

135mm

Five months ago I crushed my right hand....

Five months ago I crushed my right hand. As a consequence I have a missing ring finger. The middle finger was severely damaged but rehab is ongoing so I am confident of reasonable flexion.

My question. Would the GE1 grip be slightly wider than normal grips, particular near the end.

I tend to ride with light hands on the bar and can get reasonable grip using the thumb, first finger and pinky.

I think it might be useful if the grip was wider toward the end. Could you tell me if my assessment is accurate?

Thanks.

You might have better luck with something like their GS or GP line. They widen out nicely for better palm support towards the outside of the grip. I ride them on my XC and rigid frame bikes.

This seems like a thicker grip - does...

This seems like a thicker grip - does anyone know the average diameter of this grip?

Hi Henry,

These are a thicker grip, but do have a slight taper/increased diameter to them toward the end of the grip. They are definitely a little thicker than most grips, but what sort of grips are you used to, or perhaps looking to replace? I'd be happy to help narrow things down a bit since we do have a rather large selection of grips on the site. You can email me at atierney@backcountry.com, and I'm in Monday through Friday evenings at Competitive Cyclist

i am also curious to how thick it is. i normally ride the odi ruffian which is pretty thin and fits perfectly since i have hands that fit a small size glove. any idea if it is thicker than the ruffian and the odi rogue is too thick for my hands on the other end of thickness

The thickness of the GE1 is 32mm
