SES 3.4 Disc Wheelset
As a solid upgrade or the crowning touch for a dream build comes the SES 3.4 Disc Wheelset from ENVE. It possesses everything we require on a modern road wheelset including centerlock disc compatibility and a touch of aero-ness, lightweight, stability in crosswinds, and stiffness while sprinting. This awesome all-around wheelset is an in-house favorite here at the office, as well as at ENVE's HQ—fitting as we both get to share Utah's many canyon climbs, flat valley floors, and rolling terrain linking it all up. These wheels can truly do it all and we haven't found any riding scenario where we wished we were on a different set of hoops. The rims are an update from the previous 3.4 and receive wider internal and external widths while still benefiting from the patented Smart ENVE System design, allowing this wheelset to be very aerodynamic without sacrificing stability when crosswinds test your nerve and handling skills on blustery days and riding through swirling canyon winds. They are laced up to smooth spinning and fast engaging Industry Nine hubs, placing this wheelset on the top of a very short list of hoops we'd choose if we were shopping for an upgrade or building up a new bike.
Just like with the rest of the Smart ENVE System lineup, rim profiles are specifically designed for the application and with this particular wheelset, ENVE sought out a shape that created a light wheelset for climbing in the mountains, without neglecting an aerodynamic shape that saves watts elsewhere. Its solution was to create a front hoop that's four millimeters shallower than the rear, which helps mitigate the instability often experienced with deeper carbon wheels, especially as the front wheel is attached to your steering axis. The slightly deeper rear improves aerodynamic efficiency by helping the passing airflow stay attached for longer, therefore, creating less turbulence, and thus less drag, and stiffness, as the spokes are shorter.
This version of the SES 3.4 is exclusively designed for centerlock disc and utilizes an 11-speed road freehub or SRAM XD driver and is ideal for your cyclocross, gravel, and road exploits. Hubs come set up for 12mm Thru-Axle front and 12 x 142mm rear. The 3.4 Disc rim is some 40 grams lighter than the standard rim version, as a braking surface, as well as heat management, isn't an issue. By reducing the external rotation weight at its furthest point and adding back some grams at the hubs with some rotor, accelerations and climbing efficiency with benefit along with the confident stopping power of discs in any weather condition. As with all of its wheels, ENVE uses sophisticated technology and engineering techniques for an incredibly fast and stiff wheel. ENVE claims the SES series wheels boasts the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any carbon wheel on the market, due in part to ENVE's patented process of molding in spoke holes, nipple seats, and valve stem holes.

- Q & A
Will 28mm tires fit on the wheel?
Hi Moon, 28mm tires will work on this wheelset just fine!
Can you provide the manufacturing date of this model?
Hi Dejan, these are the Gen 1 version of the SES 3.4 which current through 2017.
What’s the difference between the regular and the XD? Also, will this wheelset fit a 2018 Cervélo R3 disc with their proprietary thru-axle? I think it is a 12 x 100 and 12 x 142 setup, thanks!
Hi Gary, this wheelset can be used without disc brakes?
The 2018 Cervélo R3 disc uses the RAT thru axle. It should fit, right? 12x100 and 12x142
Hi Gary, the XD-R freehub fits specific Sram XD style wide range cassettes. The HG freehub fits Shimano cassettes and Sram road cassettes. If that Cervelo has 12x100 and 12x142mm hub spacing these wheels will fit but Industry Nine has end cap to allow their hubs to fit many frames.
Are these quick release compatible?
They are compatible with the use of QR endcaps; item NIN000M. As of 12/23/18 we're sold out of the rear endcaps.
Are these the 2017 version? also are they tubeless compatible or is that the newest version of these?
Hi Peter, these are the older version of the SES 3.4 Disc, they are not tubeless ready.
They are First Generation: https://www.enve.com/en/installation/wheels-installation-and-care/rim-archives/ses-3-4-gen-1/
