M630 Industry Nine Torch 27.5in Boost Wheelset

It's no surprise to us that ENVE's M-Series hoops have been earning reputations of all-mountain powerhouses, and the M630 Industry Nine Torch 27.5in Boost Wheelset. This wheelset is ready to supercharge your trail bike, with a mastery of carbon fiber construction, laced up to Industry Nine hubs for snappier engagement, faster rolling, and quicker power transfer from your pedals to the trail. ENVE's M630 rims use a balanced internal width that sits at 30mm, offering space for 27.5-inch tires ranging from 2.3 through 2.5-inches. This wider — but not too wide, profile allows you to comfortably run the beefier trail tires we're seeing these days, but without so much width that the tire profile itself is compromised.

Trail tires have certainly gotten wider and rims have grown too in an effort to add better sidewall support. For trail use, our personal experience has been very favorable with 30mm internal widths, so we are glad to see that on the M630. What is remarkable is ENVE managed to shed some 40 grams of rim weight versus the M60HV while increasing the internal width from 26 to 30mm. We aren't exactly sure how ENVE managed to achieve this but the ride is simply amazing. The redesigned, wider hookless bead provides more material on a vulnerable portion of the rim and the edge isn't as sharp as the outgoing M-Series line so tire pinch flats are virtually eliminated. The increased traction and ride comfort from running higher volume tires is something that we doubt we could ever stray from, and the M630 lets us wring out every drop of performance from these wider tires. New lines are opened up and cornering and braking have never been so responsive.

All of ENVE rims, including this M630, feature its patented manufacturing techniques building wheels that are light, durable, and renowned for being extremely stiff. The spoke holes, nipple seats, and valve holes are all molded from carbon fiber rather than drilling after cure which cuts into the fibers. This maintains continuous integrity and results in increased rigidity and lower rim weight.

This method of construction allows for higher and more uniform spoke tension building a more durable and better-preforming wheel that reduces the risk of nipples pulling through the rim. ENVE also utilizes a process that removes the bladder, post-molding, resulting in additional weight savings compared to other wheel manufacturers who leave the rim-shaping, inflatable bladder in the rim after curing. This process takes more time and skill but it results in a lighter rim that is better balanced.

ENVE is extremely proud of developing, prototyping, and manufacturing each and every rim under one roof in its Ogden, UT facility. It doesn't leave any part of the construction to chance, including hand building them in-house to exacting standards that in the end results in the finest wheelset you can put on your bike. Boost spacing is on almost every newer bike and they simply track better and stiffen up both ends making handling telepathic. These wheels are durable enough to charge down any line on the mountain and light enough that climbing back up to do it again isn't a chore. On this particular model, the M630 rim is laced up neatly to I9's Torch hub. The Torch has held ground as one of the quickest engaging, and most powerful hubs in I9's lineup, with 120 points of engagement that offer just three degrees of possible rotation before they engage. This snappy engagement is achieved by combining six phased pawl that fit to a 60-tooth hub body so that at any point three pawls are engaged, propelling you forward at lightning speed.
