From streetside crags to the faraway alpine.

Edelweiss's Excess 9.6mm EverDry Unicore Climbing Rope is strong enough for sport climbing and light enough for alpine routes. At 9.6mm, the Excess is an excellent introduction to intermediate climbers looking for something lighter and more supple. Its Unicore construction bonds the sheath to the core for long-lasting durability and better handling. Edelweiss treated this rope's sheath with EverDry for decreased water absorption and enhanced abrasion-resistance, and there's a mid-rope indicator for faster rappel setups.

Likes to get tangled but good weave

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use this rope for sport climbing. The unicore weave seems solid and the dry treatment not only keeps the rope from getting water logged but also helps repel dirt.
However, this rope is constantly tangling up on me, no matter how many times I flake it, no matter how I coil or stack it, even if it's been stretched out in a top rope anchor for awhile, it still manages to tangle itself up while belaying. Additionally the sheath began to fray right off the bat. I understand this doesn't compromise the ropes safety, but I had a Mammut Eternity Classic for several years, that I abused the hell out of and there was hardly any fraying on the sheath when I retired it. I like the idea of the unicore weave and the dry treatment but the hassle of constantly having to untangle my rope doesn't make it worth it my opinion.

Solid Rope!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I mostly use this rope for sport climbing outdoors and so far it rocks (pun intended)! the 9.6mm size makes it light enough to not be super heavy when climbing or hiking to the crag and just large enough to feel safe when I'm helping teach new climbers/belayers. I've taken a few falls on it and it catches well and the colors are fun too which is always a plus!

The Unicore construction will make it last longer and helps with soft catches while the EverDry treatments keeps it from soaking up water and also helps keep dirt and other things out of it. Definitely recommend it for beginner to intermediate sport climbers looking to get a little more out of their rope.
