The Eagle's Nest Outfitters HotSpot stretches your camping hammock's window of usability. The HotSpot holds any standard-size sleeping pad in place, instantly making your hammock both warmer and more comfortable. Includes stuff sack for packability.
Works as advertised
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I use a sleeping pad during cooler weather hammocking since hammock camping at night (50 degrees and colder) can disturb or prevent sound sleep. Without the Hotspot, my pad usually ends up beside or on top of, rather than underneath where it insulates. The Hotspot definitely prevents pad migration as well as insulating my shoulders and torso from breezes. It also packs down flat and fits easily into my backpack. This is a great cost-effective solution if you're not yet ready to invest in an under quilt and top quilt. ENO FTW!
Kind of pointless.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I bought this to use with my sleeping pad in my hammock and found that all that happens is it winds up on top of me in the middle of the night. The purpose of this is to keep my sleeping pad from doing this and it doesn't work.
Don't waste your money, just buy a warmer sleeping bag.
Did you slide your pad into the Hot Spot, or just lay the pad on top of it?
I slid it in the pad like you are supposed to, and I have tried it more than once.
Stay warm in the woods
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I used the Hotspot with my Onenest Hammock over a weekend backpacking and the added insulation helped keep my Thermarest pad and sleeping bag warm and cozy. I did need to increase the setup time, but the covered back helped keep cool winds from pushing through to the bag, which worked perfectly with the bag and pad I was sporting since the bag and pad are secured with elastic strips on each side of the bag, keeping me insulated by sealing the space between the bag and pad. I did have to add time to setup for the hammock, which was compounded by the fact that I use an extra long bag and pad, but I feel the trade off was well worth the added warmth. I tried the setup without the Hotspot to see the difference, and found that I could definitely feel the difference because of lower temps and colder winds moving through trees. I also found out that it packs well into the bag for the Eagles Nest Outfitters OneLink hammock when it is folded in half, also providing your pack with added rigidity up the middle when packed properly on top of a sleeping bag. Pretty cool hammock accessory.
