Wool Top/base layer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I have worn this top several times; both on its own and as a baselayer. Top layers well and is not restrictive.

My new favorite wool baselayers

I discovered DW here on Backcountry and have now bought directly from DW and from Backcountry. This was the second baselayer I got (first was heavier weight, also awesome). This shirt rocks. Perfect weight/warmth for 30ish degree temps under a jacket, or 20ish if being more active. Will wear this alone in spring or on chillier summer eves. No itching whatsoever (and I normally itch!). Breathes well. Fit is perfect. Sits nicely just above the hips with subtle tapering at the waist; sleeves are long enough; shoulders are broad enough for an athletic build but the fit is still feminine and flattering. Will be hard not to buy another (or go to DW for other lines/weights). Will never again buy any other wool baselayer (Patagucci, Smartwool, Ibex, etc. - as good as those are, this is the best ... for me). 100% made in the US with sustainable methods, too. Rockin'!

I just ordered some different items from them and at first try on, I'm super stoked at the slightly more laid-back styling. I'm even leaning toward the bigger of two sizes because it just feels great to wear something cozy and not skin-tight. I'm mostly bummed that the natural color is wicked see-through, especially in the lighter Maverick weight. A lot of reviewers complained that the tee shirts didn't wash well though (lots of seam twisting and shrinkage apparently), so I'm wondering if you have any long-term test notes?

Hi, just seeing Sarah C's question now. OK, so yeah, I've been wearing DW tops for a couple of years now. The powder high top wears the best - I wear it every day in the winter (I swear), wash it once in a while, and it's only gotten better. The baselayers - yes, others are right, they do shrink a tiny bit in the torso and sleeves. So when I got others (from DW), I sized up. Also have to say I have a Maverick weight that this year (2 years in) tore at the wrist (probably cuz I was always tugging it down). I air dry 'em but they do look funky/twisted when they come out of the washer ... but dry out ok.

Great quality

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I must be in between Medium & Large; this is my first Duckworthy order. I like crew necks, but this one was more "U" shaped (and loose). May re-order in Medium.

Unanswered Question

Does this shirt wash well? Can I toss it in with the rest of my synthetic technical materials and wash with a sports wash?

Great Colors, Super Flattering

I love this shirt. Baselayers tend to be super form fitting boarding on uncomfortable. But not this one. It's looser in the waist and still fits great in my arms and shoulders. LOVE the green color. And it's so soft

What would fit a size 4 or 27in waist?

      Hi Emily,
You should fit into a size small.
