Race tech for the masses.

Diadora’s Vortex Racer II Men’s Shoes are half pro-caliber trickle-down technology and half everyman all-rounder, which means they pack enough punch for hard and fast rides but are comfortable enough that you’ll actually want to wear them. The upper is part of the former category, with Suprell-Mesh fabric that’s built using Diadora’s racing last and a pro-level heel cup that prevents slop when you’re hammering up tarmac walls.

To balance power and price, Diadora outfitted the Vortex with its Performance Road CR sole, a composite-reinforced platform that’s rated a six on the company’s stiffness scale. The sole is outfitted with a NET Breathing System, which uses a network of synthetic fibers in conjunction with a waterproof and breathable membrane to keep both sweat and the elements at bay. There’s also a single BOA dial closure at the top of the foot and a strap at the toe to relieve pressure, along with a replaceable Duratech rubber heel cap to keep you upright on slick coffee shop floors.

Great shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I wear size US 8.5 and ordered a size 42 and they fit perfect. I used it for a local race and found them to be quite comfortable. I’ve used them together with my Time Expresso 4 without much issues. Another reviewer here stated the boa mechanism dug into his feet. I was able to tighten them snug without the above issues.

I bought these shoes for several reasons: BOA technology without the high price, stiffness, color matches my Giant TCR Advanced 2 Disc paint, and the unique Diadora style that sets it apart from the sea of ugly SIDI, Fizik, Giro shoes in the peleton.

What is the difference between the speed vortex and the vortex racer II?

Nice shoes, but...

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

Nice shoes. They are pretty light and stiff, with a nice clean design, and fairly roomy toe box. The back of the Boa knob, however, creates a huge pressure point on the top of your foot when you snug it down, making it mildly annoying to downright painful. Definitely needs more padding in that area. They might possibly work for you if you wear thick socks and wear your shoes loose. I wanted these shoes, but I will have to return them.

You cranked the BOA down too tight...

I am interested in the Diadora Vortex racer 2 shoes. Do you recommend one size up from your normal US shoe size, because the sizing is in european sizing? I am normally a 10 so would you recommend an 11. I currently have a pair of Fizik R5 Uomo and I am wearing a size 11 and it fit snug and comfortable.

Fizik's usually fit a little bit tighter, so I would recommend your normal size on these.
