When nothing but warm will do.
When it comes to mixing style, fit, and function all into one package, it's hard to contend with the Italian fabric wizards at De Marchi. Since 1946, De Marchi has been ahead of the zeitgeist in cycling apparel design. So, not surprisingly, its new fall/winter line, especially the Winter Gloves found here, is nothing short of exceptional.
For the construction of the Winter Gloves, De Marchi used two separate fabrics: the proprietary ThermaShield 3L and a polyester microfiber. Starting with the former, this material provides a triple layer of protection against the elements. The exterior of the fabric is water-resistant, which is further reinforced by a windproof membrane. At the interior, ThermaShield features a medium loft that provides a fleecy comfort of warmth against the skin. Just as importantly, though, this textured liner works to efficiently pull moisture away from the skin. And as a result, your hands remain dry and warm from the inside out.
At the palm, De Marchi placed what it calls a Swiss open cell padding. You'll find that this padding runs horizontally across the palm in four articulated strips. De Marchi states that this material is highly-resilient and quite supple. This padding continues from the top of the palm to its heel, then abruptly starts into the ThermaShield 3L. The inside of the fingers, however, features a perforated natural rubber that guards against the elements, while also improving grip at the lever.
Although these gloves are designated for winter, if your winter consistently consists of sub-freezing temperatures, De Marchi recommends pairing these gloves with its Early Winter Gloves as a liner. And even when doubled-up, you won't experience any sacrifice in dexterity for the warmth. Lastly, you'll find a small loop along the inside of the wrist. In fact, if you've been following De Marchi's 2013 Fall/Winter line closely, you've surely noticed this little pink loop popping up all over the place. What's it for? Well, De Marchi designed its new line to work together as a system. Accordingly, every piece of outwear has a subtle button placed where articles of clothing overlap. And in this circumstance, it's meant to provide a secure, non-shifting attachment to either a new De Marchi jacket, long sleeve jersey, or arm warmer.
The De Marchi Winter Gloves are available in the color Black and in five sizes from Small to XX-Large.
- Q & A
great glove for a variety of temps
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
I love this glove because it is low-profile enough to fit underneath another pair. I wear this plus a bigger winter shell glove when it is under 50 degrees, and this alone when it is 50-65 degrees. I've also tried wearing these under my regular summer gloves in the mid 50-s temps and it works great. only downside to these gloves are that there's no padding, but you can pair them with other gloves to solve that problem.. (also you can't use your phone with them on, but that is not a big deal).
