I absolutely fell in love with my new boots when I got them. I used them first to do two weeks of hard labor with a mix of snow/mud and then spent a week hunting elk in Colorado also with snow/mud/brush. Both of these involved a good amount of activity in cold weather so non-insulated was a great choice. The grip and support of these boots really impressed me. My favorite feature on this boot is the deep hook that really hugs your ankle. I personally have longer feet and skinny ankles so the extra support is sometimes hard to find. Although I am normally a size 12 shoe, I went with an 11.5 which worked out perfectly after packing them out. Another added bonus is the reinforced toe box, a great option when you want stronger toes without steel toe. I would keep this boot solely for colder weather and trekking through snow. For the rest of the winter I will use them for an everyday boot for getting around the ski resort. If you plan on using these boots everyday or nearly everyday I would highly suggest getting some cheap boot dryers to air them out since it can be hard for moisture/smell to escape a big boot like this.

tough boot

This boot rocks. Very durable and lightweight. Gives you the protection and support you need without all the weight.

    Very nice!

Very comfortable with a good amount of insulation to keep the tootsies warm during the winter. Most insulated boots I have worn in the past feel really heavy.. These seem pretty light for what they are. VERY durable! I would recommend these to anyone and everyone.

Used these boots in sub zero temps. Kept feet warm and allowed me to be agile and cover some serious ground.

I'm not seeing any technical information about these boots on this page.

I'm looking at the Brown All Leather version. Are they Goretex? What else?

Super bomber tough and very comfy!

Bought this boot at an Army Surplus after trying on about a dozen boots and this particular boot is very very comfy and allows one's ankle to articulate comfortably. I've used these boots hard every day doing ranch work, so I've got maybe 100 hard days in them and they're holding up well. I would have liked to have a Vibram sole. The sole is the one component that's not top-notch, but its not Vibram. The Gore-Tex, however, KILLS IT! I've had to do irrigation work (flooded grass fields, trudging through drainage ditches) in them and it takes a whole lot of water to get my foot wet. I can be in ankle high water, not over the top of the boot, obviously, and stay dry for maybe ten full minutes of the boots being completely submerged. I've never experienced a better water-proofed boot. The leather does need TLC somewhat often. Because of the Gore-tex, you can't treat the leather with some more durable waxes (compromises the Gore-tex if you do) and you can only use an oil to keep the leather supple. With any leather boots, the leather gets brittle if you don't keep in treated, especially when working the boots hard.
This boot fits my foot particularly well. I have a size 7.5 foot, 3D wide (short and squat foot) and I've got the size 7 in this boot. The boot packed out pretty quickly and molded to my foot really well. This boot isn't made of super stiff leather so its able to take the shape of the user's foot well. All day comfort, for days and days on end. I can even run decently in them. Great boot. Danner is always top-notch!

Awesome review Jonathan, thanks for sharing! Stoked to have you back posting in the Backcountry Community!

is there a non-camo version of this?

        Hey Samuel,

Danner does make this in an all brown leather version. It looks like we are expecting to get them in at the end of the month.

I've got the all brown and it looks nice and utilitarian.

        The best hunting boots ever!

Have a pair that's 7-8 years old (I think). Use them for bow hunting Whitetails in northeast hill country and farm land. They've taken a lot of abuse, and are still holding up like the day I got them. With a good wool sock I've been in -5* all day sits on stand with warm feet. Great support and comfort, makes them one of the most popular hunting boots out there.
