USA made, quality construction.

Grab your maps and hit the trail with the waterproof Danner Men's Mountain Light 2 Hiking Boot as your trail-side companion. From quick day hikes to mellow backpacking trips, this leather hiking boot ensures tough durability and a comfortable fit, albeit one that might require some breaking in. The tenacious, leather exterior is backed by a Gore-Tex membrane that offers breathable performance and waterproof protection, so your feet stay comfortable and dry, no matter the conditions.

A half-length, Airthotic instep cradles your heel and supports your arch, while a molded, fiberglass shank assures a firm feel underfoot. Danner made the Mountain Light 2 Hiking Boot with a stitch-down construction, which makes resoling easy as taking a walk through the local (and perhaps more notably flat) nature preserve. And if you were worried about your feet slipping out from underneath you on steep descents, the tough Vibram Kletterlift offers just enough grip and traction on anything from muddy tracks to sketchy scree fields.

  • Hiking boots reminiscent of the ones found at your Grandad's house

Rugged boot that holds up to the PNW

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 10

I say these run true to size, but Danner does say that they run a half to whole size large. I have a wide size 10 foot. They take a long time to break in, but once they are broken in they are are bomber. I spend an entire day in them and they hold up to all kinds of environmental obstacles. Needs an insert for arch support or basic foot comfort after you've had them for 5-10 years.

Good, but not perfect - - - -

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 10.5-D

Getting a proper fit in this boot is not always easy, but the boot is well constructed with quality materials. There is one flaw, however, which needs to be noted: the inside platform beneath the foot is not smooth, and it imparts a "ridged" or "bumpy" feel under my feet. I have tried quality insoles, as well as several different socks, and the problem is definitely in the boot's foot platform. The sensation is not painful, but it is not comfortable and is very distracting. I have noticed this in more than one pair, so don't think it is an isolated characteristic.

Great Boot

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Gave these as a gift to my friend when he finally wore out of his hiking boots. Well designed. Easy to lace. The traction is great. I have a pair of Danners that I LOVE. The only downside to these boots is the ankle support. We ended up exchanging these out because he wanted a higher boot with better ankle support. He wears a 9.5 and 9.5s fit him perfectly.

Bringing a bit of the NW with me

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 10R

Just moved back to the midwest after many years in the PNW. Have had about 10 pairs of Danner boots at various stages of my journey. Look forward to watching these amazing boots grow character as the years pass.

Awesome Boots!

I gave these as a B-Day gift to my brother in law. It was his #1 request when asked what he wanted for his B-Day. He said that he was replacing the same boots that he's had for years that were beyond repair. I didn't know that people have shoes repaired anymore... However, he swears that these are the best and wouldn't consider using anything else. He was stoked to get them.

Working for NPS I need a good boot for search and rescures, trail maintenance... Danner dropped the ball on this one. First, the "Half-length, Airthotic instep" are plastic and only incorporate your heel. The plastic does not provide much support and it also does not fit properly in the boot. This leave a gap between the insole and the leather of the boot which causes some unusual blisters on the heel. I tried to use different insoles (even really thin ones) and it just presses the top of your foot onto the boot ripping off any hair you have. So you have to cut the insoles in half to fit the boot. Next is the tongue design. It fold over itself on one side of the laces (see photos above). This would be fine if the seams would line up when you lace them. Sadly they do not so the seams double on top of each other causing another hot spot on the top of your foot. In my opinion the leather is thin and does not provide much support.Last, the 5 in shaft height makes it so the top of the boot digs into my Achilles tendon. the short height does not keep rocks or other debris out so you need to wear gaiters. I was hoping that some of these problems would go away after I broke the boot in or tried different socks but no such luck. There are some good thing about this boot. The Vibram tread is fantastic and the boot is waterproof if you stepping in very shallow puddles. That is the only reason I gave these boots two stars. If you work for the government and you see these boots on the uniform website don't waste your money. If your paying for these completely out of pocket LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE!

I'm normally a size 8.5 in sneakers; should I be sizing up a half size or a whole size to account for foot swelling and socks?

I would like to order "Danner Mountain Light 2 Hiking Boot" Will you send it to Hong Kong? May I know the approx. delivery charge. I am wearing UK8.5 or US 9.5 for Nike. So what size should I choose.**********EDIT: ant23: In general, you can just size up a half size, but if you're doing heavy duty cold weather stuff, go up a full size and also think about a taller boot.
