Columbia Bugaboo Interchange Jacket - Men's
ColumbiaBugaboo Interchange Jacket - Men's

Keeping you fully protected from wet weather all year long.

There's no reason to get soaked and cold when you have the Columbia Men's Bugaboo Interchange Jacket. The shell's Omni-Tech membrane with taped critical seams keeps you dry during rainy hikes in the spring or fall, and snowy days in winter. The removable fleece liner zips into the jacket for the best fit possible.

A regular fit leaves room for a baselayer underneath the Bugaboo's removable fleece liner, and the polyester tricot lining slides over your ski long-johns or hiking tee with ease. The hood cinches tightly across your head, or you can remove it when there's nothing but a sunny sky overhead. The cuffs and hem cinch down tightly as well to retain all that wonderful warmth in winter. And the interior pocket holds your MP3 so you can jam out all year long.

Exactly what I needed

I currently work a job that requires me to dress business casual and I sometimes have to be outside for long periods of time. I have several different coats to choose from but not one that’s warm enough for sub zero temps. With temps sitting in the single digits or negatives it’s cold. With this jacket, a button up dress shirt and a undershirt I am toasty. The temp is currently 10 degrees and I’m very comfortable. I went to pick up food last night with just a T-shirt on and it was 5 degrese and I was very comfortable. I’m loving the Omni heat so much so that now I want a new pair of gloves. My thinsulate gloves are not adequate enough... to my surprise Columbia also makes gloves with the same Omni heat liner. I’m sold. My coworker has a Columbia beanie with the same liner and said it gets very warm. Now I’m curious what other garments they make. I have one pea coat and the rest of my stuff is TNF and I’ve been very happy but not as warm as I’d like. My only complaint is the fleece jacket is gray. I would rather it had been black but I don’t know that I could wear it in the fall like I would my other coats so I’ll probably just start looking for a new fleece for early spring that’s black. Also, some people complain about sizing... I’m 5’10 and 210lbs. I have broad shoulders. I’d love to say that’s all muscle but I do love to eat. I’m a 44-46r suit. I’m a 16 34/45 shirt... the large is perfect. If I was super skinny it might be a bit big.

Warmer than I thought

I wanted a good coat but didn't want to break the bank doing so. With the jacket being on sale and having good reviews, I figured this would be the one for me. As always, Columbia sizing is great, and the inner fleece is very comfortable. I was hesitant when I got the jacket due to how lightweight it is, and eventually it got put to the test. It kept me perfectly warm in mid-20's weather while simply wearing a t-shirt underneath. I even got a little hot. Then the downpour came, and I stayed dry for a the few hours I was out in the rain. I'll continue to put it to the test with winter visits to Milwaukee and Seattle in the next month. I don't expect to be disappointed.

Ideal User

The ideal user for this winter jacket is someone who experiences cold, windy and wet weather (30 to -30F). It is ideal for someone who needs to wear a winter jacket regularly and needs mobility while wearing it.

Evaluation Criteria

• Water resistant: The outer jacket is a windcheater and is detachable from the inner jacket. The windcheater is water resistant and can be used as a raincoat. You can use this product year around such as using it during monsoon, and the inner jacket is warm enough by itself to ideally use during transitional seasons.

• Durability: It is durable as the the material is of high quality; it does not wear or tear easily making it ideal for people working in rough environments such as the woods/farms. The windcheater material is dust resistant too.

• Thermal insulation: The jacket has a silver-reflective material on the inside which helps trap the heat. This technology enables the jacket to be thin and light in weight while still being equally warm as its competitors. The windcheater is made of a material which does not allow the cold wind and water to enter while maintaining the warmth inside. This can be a key feature for people who spend a significant amount of time outside in such conditions.

• Comfort: It is very comfortable and does not add any kind of burden as it is light in weight. It gives you enough room to comfortably move around allowing you great mobility. Some might complain that the jacket is a little larger than the size they bought; however, that is how it is meant to be, the inner jacket is a perfect fit but the outer windcheater is slightly larger to provide some space between the two jackets for thermal insulation.

Extra Features
• There are two hip and chest pockets each, they have zipper seals and are spacious enough for a smartphone, wallet, and keys to fit comfortably. The hip pockets are pretty warm to keep your hands comfortable in the cold weather.
• There is a detachable hoodie on the windcheater which is made from the same material; however, it is thin and non-insulating, so an additional beanie might be needed. The hoodie itself is pretty useful to keep your head dry from snow/rain.
• The jacket is light in weight and can be easily folded up to fit in compact spaces like your backpack which can be useful for people like college/high school students.

Hope this review helps. Best of luck!

Great review. One question: does the hood role up into the collar?

I love my jacket. I've taken it ice fishing in temperatures below 0 and never been cold. I just went on a shoeshowing trip and it was amazing. Love the jacket, the warmth, and the comfort.

Well-made, warm, and attractive. Fits perfectly, with enough room for medium-weight clothing to be worn comfortably under the jacket with the liner in. Small complaint: I have yet to find the zippered inner pocket, but I have learned to deal with it. 😊

It's part of the shell, so you have to unzip the fleece to get to it.

I purchased this coat a while back (years ago?) and I have only had great experiences with it. The removable jacket on the inside is perfect for spring/fall days. The color combo I chose is very vibrant-Light Blue and Orange, which gives no excuses to skiiers and snowboarders who "didn't see me" and ran into me. (It's only happened twice with a different jacket)

Super easy to keep clean and very comfortable to wear. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a well priced jacket of great quality. Columbia does it again!

This jacket is great - I love how it has multiple layers so you can adapt to the weather. The detachable hood is also a nice feature. Very warm and gets the job done in cold weather.

What is the center back length of a medium?

31 inches

Is there any kind of pull tie to cinch the bottom of the jacket?

I do think it does have a pull tie but I will check and report back next time I wear it.
