Catlike Mixino Helmet - Men's

Big holes, big air, big protection.

The first thing you notice when looking at the Catlike Mixino, or any other Catlike helmet, really, is the completely unconventional shell and vent layout. Buried inside that shell, though, is where the real magic sits. Keeping your head protected is always priority number one for a helmet, with keeping your head cool a close second. Catlike forms the Mixino around an Aramid cage it calls the Crash Energy Splitter, which does just what it says. In the event of a crash, the cage is designed to maintain the helmet’s structural integrity by dispersing the energy throughout. In addition, Catlike extended the protection for the back of your head beyond what many other manufacturers offer, and it's integrated what it calls MPS eVo, a micro-adjusting fit system that ensures a proper helmet fit. And about that keeping cool priority —Catlike’s got that one covered with 39 individual vents, and airflow channels with rear-facing exhaust ports to keep air moving the right direction.

Great looking Helmet

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

This is a great looking helmet, Nice details and excellent construction. Unfortunately for me I have a big melon and this particular helmet runs narrower than other brands. Even for an (L) size

light, airy, good looking lid

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Can't understand the negative reviews on this item.

Taken one by one:

The straps - more forward yes, but adjustable, and they are softer than most, not "thin".

The look - sits a little higher than most, but who cares? I like the rounder and more plentiful holes, and the helmet is quieter in the wind IMO.

Fits me well, and with all the adjustments they provide it will likely fit you as well. At this sale price -- a bargain.

Returned

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I really wanted to like this helmet because it's very lightweight, has a ton of vents and has that comfortable "barely there" feeling on my head but there are 2 problems I just couldn't get past so I returned it: 1) the front strap is way too far forward. It rested on the skin of my temple and brushed the edges of my eyebrows. Very annoying. 2) I have a skinny face/head and because this helmet flares out on the sides, it looks rather bulbous sitting up there. Not quite mushroom cap territory but because it sits high on the head it looks silly.

Good fit and ventilation, weak buckle

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

The helmet is super easy to adjust and fits perfectly; hence, it's quite comfortable. It does provide lots of ventilation, more than any of my previous helmets. One note: (the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) the buckle is not strong enough, and I have to constantly tighten the straps during longer rides.

Good Ventilation & Fit, Light Weight

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

Very pleased with the Mixino. Small fits my oval size 7 noggin with a thin cap better than any helmet I've worn (many from Kask, Giro, and Rudy). Fit is consistent around entire perimeter, with no pressure spots. Feels very secure. Great ventilation for summer, too much for winter. Straps require some care; side buckles below ear are easy to release inadvertently. Definitely looks like it rides high on head, at least from the front, but light weight, excellent ventilation and (especially) fit make this one a keeper.

Great Helmet!

I really like this helmet. The fit is fantastic for my slightly oval head. I has great ventilation, and seems very high quality.
It is a steal at the price Backcounty is selling it for.

    Catlike Mixino!

Great helmet for keeping cool in the southern California heat! Fits well and the straps have been updated from the whisper and function better with less movement. Whisper saved my dome in a bad crash so I purchased the Mixino and couldn't be happier. Wish it was available in more solid colors.

Great fit, comfortable, and well ventilated.

I found some good and some no so great on this helmet, mostly good. The fit retention system is really nice and ventilation is about as good as it gets. The only thing I didn't love was on my small narrow head it looked a little big.

Are the posted weights accurate or are those for the Euro version?
I have these for the US version:

    MD 55-57cm 240gr
    LG 58-60cm 260gr

    Amazingly Cool! Light & Airy

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this helmet in every way except for the chin straps. Cool, fits nicely, lightweight, looks good, easily adjustable, and I can feel the cool air rushing across my head. The only negative preventing a 5-star review is the chin strap. Poorly engineered. Front helmet strap anchor is positioned too far forward on your face and the overly-thin fabric sticks on your skin like a wet noodle. The clip/clasp on the chin is cheaply designed too. It's a cycling Faux Pas to wear your sunglasses under the helmet straps, but this helmet almost necessitates the practice. To avoid this embarrassment I twist the straps a bit to alleviate the facial annoyance.

What's the difference between this and the Whisper?

The amount of vents and more aero (mixino).
