Nice Gravel Jersey But Waaay Too Long
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: Small
I like Castelli's attempt at creating something that appeals to (some?) gravel riders better than race-inspired loud & logo-crazy road jerseys or baggy moto-inspired MTB stuff. The styling is subtle but not boring and the colors are more about blending in than being seen.
The fit is a nice mix of a gravel-friendly, slightly-relaxed body (despite Castelli calling it "form-fit") with race-fit long and snug arms that are not overly constraining (which are perfect for me even though I have pencil-thin arms).
The mix of materials is a bit odd. The body feels too heavy for good moisture/thermal management . OTOH I love the thinner/stretchy lycra-like material used for the sleeves/shoulders/sides which is more substantial-feeling than that used in many race jerseys (so it probably won't stretch out and pucker after a few uses).
BUT THERE'S ONE DEAL BREAKER: the jersey is at least 3" longer than any oad jersey I own. This is strange for a sz. Small since it shouldn’t be longer than my mostly sz. Medium race-fit road jerseys (which give my skinny body the slightly-relaxed fit I prefer). Once I fill the rear pockets with a bunch of stuff the jersey will undoubtedly get snagged on the saddle's nose. This overly long fit also causes the zipper to form into funny-looking waves (I think the previous reviewer had the same problem but called the look a "nipple").
Castelli makes no mention of the longer fit (nor whether there's an advantage to it) so I have to assume that this is a design or manufacturing mistake rather than an intended feature. I'd give this jersey 2 stars for the results but am adding an additional star given the effort to make something more "gravel friendly".
