CastelliTrasparente 4 Long-Sleeve Jersey - Men's

Protection that blurs into the background.

Taking its name from the Italian word for transparent, the Castelli Men's Trasparente 4 Long-Sleeve Jersey blurs into the background on chilly training rides without the bulkiness of a protective riding jacket. The Trasparente 4 occupies the middle ground between jacket and jersey, making it a go-to choice for spring and autumn rides when a jacket is overkill, yet a regular jersey leaves you inadequately prepared for blustery conditions and oncoming showers.

It's constructed with Gore Windstopper X-Lite Plus along the front panel and sleeves, which provides full windproof protection and repels oncoming showers from soaking you to the core. By placing a windproof fabric along the leading edges, you'll remain insulated from chilly breezes when you're riding along at a brisk cadence. Castelli then places breathable thermal fabric along the back panel to exhaust built-up heat and reduce the jersey's likelihood of soaking up perspiration.

  • Minimalist feel of a jersey, wind-blocking protection of jacket
  • Gore Windstopper X-Lite Plus blocks chilly breezes, repels showers
  • Breathable thermal fabric at backside for temperature regulation
  • Lightweight, form-fitting design provides "barely there" feel
  • Full-length Vislon zip for smooth operation and durability
  • Zippered chest pocket, three rear pockets for ample storage
  • Reflective details for visibility in low-light conditions
  • Jacquard internal elastic waist for a secure fit

Benchmark

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

The Trasparente is not a jersey. It is a light jacket intended for use while riding at tempo in cool, dry weather. It is an essential piece of kit and one of the very best things that Castelli makes; and that is saying something.

The Trasparente is officially rated by Castelli for use from 64° to 50°.

But exact temp range is individual and influenced by two other factors: (a) your baselayer system, and (b) your ride intensity. For example, if you are fit and training at max effort, and wear this jersey over a full winter baselayer, this jacket can work great into the low 40s.

Also, lots of attention to detail from Castelli here: The zipper grip is designed to work well with gloved hands. The zipper itself cam-locks, and zips up and down easily on the fly (to dump heat while climbing). The textiles used in the jacket offer snug, wrap-around fit. So no annoying flapping in the wind or slowing you down.

What raises this piece into the cycling kit Hall of Fame is the clever use of class-leading Gore Windstopper in the front of the jacket... combined with a very breathable textile used on the back (to vent heat and sweat away during high intensity riding). Brilliant!

The combination allows you to ride and climb at tempo in cool/cold weather without overheating and without getting clammy (and eventually chilled).

Wear the Trasparente from ~45° to 60°... ride hard... and you will stay dry, warm, and comfortable.

Fit: Important. Size up +1 from your normal street size with Castelli jackets. Always. Italian sizing -is- different than US sizing.

Great for cool weather

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XXL

This is perfect for those cooler days from about 40-60F, and I’ve been wearing it during our variable “shoulder season” where a ride starts around 38F and finishes around 60F. Once I’m warmed up this jersey works great in the cooler end of that range, keeping things warm without trapping heat and moisture, and a couple inches of opening the collar and all’s well as the ride finishes and temps have climbed. I wear the Castilli “fishnet” undershirt under this jersey and its the perfect cool weather combo.

Like all things Castelli sizing runs small, but the 2XL was perfect for me

Really Good Fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XXL

Bought the XXL. I’m 6ft, 208lbs and it fits perfect with a long sleeve base layer. Longer neckline is appreciated in windy conditions. Love the clutch front pocket. Enjoyable at 40-55 degrees on the East Coast!

Castelli style

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I purchased the lime green jersey for its high profile visibility. The garment has a high collar and the gore windstopper material is perfect for those cool windy days...you will not be disappointed with this purchase.
