Superleggera Vest

The Castelli Men's Superleggera Vest effortlessly travels in your rear jersey pocket, deploying when chilly breezes and passing showers threaten to leave you cold and wet. It fits closely to eliminate annoying flapping at higher speeds, yet it still allows room to layer properly in cooler seasons. Reflective hits along the front and back keep you visible to oncoming traffic in low-light situations.

Pertex Quantum is smartly placed along the body, blocking whipping winds from stealing precious body heat, as well as repelling light showers from dampening your upper body. Breathable mesh panels keep you cool on extended climbs and high-cadence efforts alike. Along the rear panels, the Stretch Torrent insert offers waterproof protection from oncoming weather without sacrificing its body-hugging stretch.

  • Ultra-light vest blocks the chill on windy rides
  • Sits closely, yet allows room for layering underneath
  • Pertex Quantum body is windproof and water-resistant
  • Breathable mesh sides prevent overheating on climbs
  • Stretch Torrent rear for waterproof protection
  • Reflective hits boost visibility to traffic

Super light and super tight

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: M

As other reviewers have said this cuts very tight. I am normally M in Castillo, erred on L based on the reviews and glad I did.

I like my kit close hugging so L works for me but if you’re not sure it would be best to go up another size.

I run hot so I was looking for a minimal vest. This has a good balance - it’s not 100% windproof but it definitely takes the bite out of those colder mornings.

Wraps up very tightly for storage in back pocket.

Does the job well

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I wear this with arm warmers and a jersey down into the low 50s; the windproof material works great and helps keep me warm, particularly when there's climbing involved. The venting in back helps keep your temp regulated and your torso free of sweat. Super packable. Sizing is normal Castelli sizing (ie, size up)--I have an XL and it is snug in a good way. I am 6' and 187lbs.

Front Fabric Doesn't Block Wind

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Pertex Quantum face fabric on this vest isn't windproof as stated in the description. I can put my mouth against the front face fabric and blow air through it. Cold air gets through while I ride. It isn't coming through the zipper or around the arm holes either but directly through the fabric.

It simply does not block all the wind, or enough of it to be really useful. Fit is good with no flapping but why bother if it doesn't block the wind?

I also own a Castelli Pro Light Wind Vest (discontinued). It blocks 100% of the wind and has better ventilation in the rear. Buy one if you find it available in your size. I wanted another vest that wasn't flouro. The only reason why I bought the Superleggera is because they didn't have the Pro Light in the color/size I wanted. Performance of the Superleggera is nowhere near as good as the Pro Light.

This is really the "Perfetto" vest

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

If I could have just one vest this would be it. Perfect for cool mornings plus chilly descents later in the day. In effect, it converts a normal jersey to a "wind stopper" as needed. This 50F morning I expected it to warm up, so I put on a mesh base layer, a normal jersey, this vest, and some arm warmers, figuring I'd remove vest and arm warmers when it warmed up. It never did. Stayed 50-53F for my whole ride, yet I was perfectly comfy in that combination.

Packability: Its huge advantage over other vests like my Castelli Perfetto, which is nice but takes some effort to stuff into a jersey pocket. This thing takes about half a pocket.

Sizing: I'm XL in everything else I've gotten from Castelli, and XL in this fits me comfortably. So Castelli sizing it at least consistent, if one size smaller than stated.

No pockets: No problem. It stretches neatly over my jersey pockets. And eliminates the hassle of vest pockets: you have to transfer everything into your jersey pockets when you take off a vest with pockets, and reverse the process if you put it back on.

Fits VERY small

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I wear a large in most items, this fits more like a women's large. Not represented correctly in fit.

Tiiiighttt vest.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this vest for my husband who is consistently a size medium in cycling gear. Had to go up two sizes to get one that fit him fairly well and even that one was "fitted." The reflective trim around the arms is a bit stiff but the construction of the vest and the materials are high-quality.

Skin tight

5’10 160 lb male, even XL is tighter than I want, this is a form fitting vest!

    Tight fit!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: large

Ordered a medium had to return it for a large which still fits very snug! Good quality, keeps the wind off as advertised. Very light and easy to wear. Beware that there are no outside pockets on the rear. I have to unzip to access my phone, snacks etc. in my jersey pockets.

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XXL

    Light, airy, and spring ready

    sizing off

      sizing very off

I thought I had ordered a kids' size vest. haha Sizing is way off.

      Great vest

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Quality of this vest looks good. Used it several times now in the beginning of a ride, over a summer or winter jersey. You can stick it in a back pocket when you warm up.
It fits pretty snug but at least it's not flapping. To me sizing looks about the same as other Large size tops I have. I do buy mostly European brands and like my gear to fit snug. If you're not a slender type or don't like a snug fit, you'll need to size up.

Great vest but disagree on sizing

This was what I was looking for for cool morning starts and long decents. Very minimalist. I almost always fit a medium in Assos or Castelli jerseys so I was surprised when the medium was tight across my chest. Exchanged for a large which fit's nicely. I'm 5'10" 155lbs, 10 percent body fat.

Thanks so much for this review, Geoff.

        Sweet vest

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: XL

I use this vest for MTB riding in early fall, good for laying with a long sleeve shirt. On the fit, I am 40.5" chest,(XL) so it fits like your painted on road bike entire. Ultralight, very packable for when you start warming up.

        Essential piece of kit

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Size Bought: XL

After cycling for almost 10 years, I have found myself trying to whittle down my gear to the bare essentials. This vest makes the cut, and in fact I recommend people purchase this vest early on in their cycling career, as I find it extremely useful. It is amazing to me how light but functional it is. Perfect for when you just jump on the bike on a cold morning, or equally at home after a long climb with a big descent. This vest is a must have! Packs away to nothing so you don't even feel it in your back pocket. The quality is amazing, and so far after much use of packing and unpacking not signs of wear. Another reviewer mentioned the lack of pockets, but this vest isn’t designed for all day riding, more of a situational, and the lack of pockets really make it as light as possible.

        Like it.

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: xl

Fit and quality great. I thought it had back pockets. It still fits comfortable over my jersey when I stuff those pockets.

        How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
