Smart layers.

The Castelli Men's Procaccini Wool Short-Sleeve Baselayer walks the fine tightrope line between every day style that you could wear to meet your friends for brunch at a local café and technical utility for a dose of extra warmth under your winter riding kit.

To achieve this balance, Castelli uses Nuyarn, which blends wool and a bit of nylon for a modern take on a traditional and much loved fabric to boost breathability and durability. The Procaccini boasts a slightly more relaxed fit than exercise-only baselayers for a seamless transition between social gatherings and ride time.

  • A casually styled, wool-blend base layer

Must have for winter riding

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This is my go to shirt for cold days. I pair this with a long sleeve jersey and wind-stopper vest. Its a heavy"ish" wool fabric. I dont find it irritating to my skin. The initial fit was like a club fit jersey, after a few washings it has shrunk a bit. It suggests to hand wash.

Great Merino base layer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I've owned several Merino wool base layers and this is my favorite so far. It's comfortable against the skin. It's also surprisingly warm and keeps me pretty dry when doing harder efforts. I've worn it every ride since I got it a few weeks ago. It's cut nicely - it's not what I would call baggy but it's not skin tight.
