If you like having some protection on your head against cool breezes and bugs, but don’t like how a typical cycling cap fits under your helmet, check out the Castelli Women’s Head Thingy.

The tubular-shaped polyester knit Head Thingy can wrap around your head to protect your ears, neck and upper part of your chest for those super cold days when you don’t want any breeze getting down your collar. Or you can use it as a face mask to make sure your nose and mouth don’t get frozen off in the wind chill. For slightly warmer days, the fabric is lightweight enough that you can use it as a headband to absorb sweat and keep your noggin protected.

It's a Thing(y)

I like the idea of this thingy. It's comfortable and comforting to have something soft around your neck during cool rides, but this thing is, well, a thing. Basically a bandana with a little stretch. It will keep your neck warm but when you pull it over your face it will fog up your glasses. Breathability is not great and the thin material is tough to adjust when wearing gloves. Bottom line: this thing is a layer for your neck or head. Nothing more.

added warmth on cool montana mornings

i have several other items such as this castelli thingy. i prefer my wool one for the best in warmth but this one is nice and tight with a lot of stretch. i pull it up way high on the back of my head and then over my nose, add my helmet to keep it up in the back and then lower it as far down as my chin according to the amount of warmth or coolness i need. i find it will not stay up on its own as other brands do but i only use it for cycling so the helmet trick works. color is nice. price was a bit much but got it when i had a few extra dollars!

Love my Castelli Head Thingy!

Perfect for cool Southern California morning rides. Probably best for 50-60 degree weather.

Bought this for my wife since she has a good bit of Castelli kit. She did not like this though. There is no elastic at the end. It just relies on the stretchiness of the fabric which to some extent I understand. It does not stay next to her neck or face well at all when she puts it on. I got a Giordana neck gaiter and it is the exact opposite.
