CastelliEvoluzione Short - Men's

Bib-free with a great fit.

Whether you plan to use the Castelli Evoluzione as a liner short for mountain biking, or simply prefer shorts without bib straps, you’ll be pleased to find that the Evoluziones are the same as their strapped siblings, just without the straps. They’re an eight-panel short, which allows each panel to be cut in such a way that it’ll conform well to your body in the cycling position, and each panel is cut from Castelli’s ProDry2Strati fabric, which is a two-layer fabric that wicks moisture away from your skin. At the core of any short is the chamois, and Castelli opted for the tried-and-true KISS Air in the Evoluzione. It’s a low-profile chamois that does a fantastic job of reducing chafing and supporting your sit bones.

Great short

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

XL fits good!!

Great short

Nice shorts but leg grippers failed

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

Just like all Castelli shorts, the fit was near perfect. Not too big, not too small. 5'8" 145...Medium fit like a glove. Always delicate washed and never used the dryer but the leg grippers came loose and were hanging off. CC offered a refund since they no longer make these shorts (or have this size).

Nice shorts but leg grippers failed

Comfortable shorts

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

Feels and looks great, runs a bit small but doesn't bother me. The only issue is that the Castelli red sticker started coming off the shorts the first time I used it.

Too small

  • Fit: Runs small

I went 1 size up from my regular large and ordered an XL and fit was still too tight to be comfortable. I have 32" waist and I'm 6'0

Quite snug

  • Fit: Runs small

My first impression after one 3 hour ride is that these shorts are quite snug. The sizing called for me to buy an XL. The XL is as tight as I would want the shorts to be. That said, the padding is very effective. This is just a first impression after one wearing but I'm sure that I will like these shorts for the long haul.

Lightweight- great for summer riding

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: medium

Enjoy these shorts for summer riding. They are lightweight and sit low on my hips. They are tighter than some of my other Medium shorts (Sugoi, Hincapi). The Chamois is great for 4 hour rides. Only down side to these shorts is that they fray on the bottoms. I don't put them in the dryer. I would still buy another pair because i like the fit, but I expect the life to be short on these shorts.

Great chamois, but ...

Like the previous reviewer, my experience was that the leg grippers (which are glued to the lycra, not sewn) came off after the third washing. Doesn't mean Castelli's stuff is 'bad', I love their jerseys and maybe their other shorts are great, but this model might be best passed on. Oh, I was just into the large on their sizing chart, but found a large to be snug, about the same as Pearl Izumi medium.

More of a customer service review

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got these for my husband and after one wear and wash, one of the leg bands came off. We didn't have the receipt. I called and CC will ship out new ones with no shipping charge, and I'll get a refund when I return the defective ones, again with no shipping charge. Excellent customer service! My husband loved these. He's 6' 155 and got a medium. Perfect fit, and great comfort on a 3 hour ride. Got them in black & white and they couldn't look better.

    Riding Position

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

An important note about these shorts: They are designed for the riding position. This means when you are out of the saddle they seem a bit low-rise. However, this design works well in keeping the waistband from bunching up. It takes a little getting used to though. Your natural instinct is to pull them up, but if you let them fall into place anatomically, they fit and perform great with no bunching or slipping. The chamois feels supportive yet not too obstrusive; it has a gradual thickness that is thickest where the sit bones meet the seat. As far as fit goes, I think it is spot on. I have a 34" waist and the Large fits me snug, but nonrestrictive. The only fear I have are the scorpion decals; I'm hoping they stay put and don't peel off, but so far, so good.

You're right on with the sizing. I have a 35" waist and they are a bit more than snug but that may be due to the size of my arse. Castelli shorts feel more supportive of muscles than other brands.
