Why We Like The Alpha RoS 2 Jacket

For those of us who have not been swooned by months of indoor training during winter, Castelli’s new Alpha RoS 2 Jacket provides a feature-heavy barrier against nature’s bite, ensuring the miles are logged even in the harshest conditions. Continuing Castelli’s impeccable lineage of inclement weather, performance clothing, the Alpha RoS 2 gets a double-layered Alpha construction comprising an inner insulation layer and outer GORE-TEX INFINIUM wind and water barrier. The layers provide protection down to 23 degrees F as well as superior wind and water resistance to brace against pocket showers or a ride-long drencher.

Castelli RoS2

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Sweet jacket. Warm and breathable, snug and pretty. Been comfortable down to mid-30?s, even on descents. Wind protection up front on, vented back. Worth every penny. Runs small. I?m 5?8 165lbs. XL is perfect fit.

Extremely small sizing

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I wear predominantly Assos, Castelli, Giordana and Mavic bike clothing. I have a good amount of Castelli items. I have always purchased in Large size. Due to other reviews, I sized up to XL. This jacket is very very undersized and I don?t know why Castelli changed cut and sizing. So, buy at least a size larger and don?t be surprised if it is still very small.

As Good As They Say

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is hands down the best cycling jacket I?ve ever worn. If you buy one piece of kit for fall through spring riding, this should be it. I?ve ridden from sub freezing to high 50?s (F) in this with various base layers and it is perfect!

A True Winter Jacket

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This is your jacket for insulation and protection on deep-winter rides. With only a summer-weight, short sleeve base layer underneath this jacket is almost too much. On alpine climbs, in 25-30 degree F (at moderate riding intensity), I'll have to unzip to the base layer to avoid overheating. And on the descents, I'll zip up and not even have a goosebump. The double-layer construction allows your upper body to laugh at the frigid air moving over it, and the water-resistant fabric keeps you dry when riding over snowmelt or under passing rainstorms.

Mission Accomplished

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've had some good jackets before (lots of Gore Bike Wear, Windstopper is a must). It was time for me to get some a new jacket and I wanted a pair that let me ride confidently year round in Utah with minimal additional layers. This Castelli jacket is form-fitting (typical Castelli) and plenty warm, and I bought the XL because I like it a smidge loose, not skin tight. I wore them today and flying down a canyon for 15 min in 22 degree weather was a good test. My extremities had me thinking frostbite, but my upper body was fine (same with my legs due to Castelli Polare 2). I love the sleeve endings on these, they complement gloves very well. The hip pockets are spacious, and the side zipper pocket is good for the valuables. I also love how high the collar is on this jacket. These are trim enough to wear under a bigger puffy coat for extreme cold situations. I also plan on using these for skinning up ski resorts this winter.
