Bora One 50 Disc Brake Wheelset

When the parcours is undulating and the sprinters, breakaway artists, and GC hopefuls of Team Movistar, UAE Team Emirates, and Lotto-Soudal need an edge against the wind, they equip their bikes with deeper wheels and now with the proliferation of disc brakes in the pro peloton, we're betting you'll see the Bora One 50 Disc Brake Wheelset on more bikes. It's an ideal all-around wheelset that's light enough to satisfy the puncheurs on the short, steep climbs that define the spring classics, while plenty stiff and aero for the pure sprinters as they vie for the green jersey in July, to the GC riders looking for an aero edge in the flat stages to conserve energy. It's also a wheelset that's thrived in the brutal sectors of cobbles in Roubaix year after year. For us, the Bora name has always been synonymous with blending aerodynamics, excellent handling, reliability, and power transfer since its introduction in 1994. Campagnolo has made updates along the way to pair with newer bikes and rider's demands over the years and now with more pros and other discerning cyclists choosing discs for their braking needs, the Bora One 50 Disc Brake Wheelset is here to provide race-ready performance and everyday reliability with the power of disc brakes on any ride.

Starting at the rim, the clincher compatibility allows for better user-friendliness for the days when race numbers aren't getting pinned on. Campy is well-renowned for its high-quality carbon construction and the Bora wheels are no exception, featuring both lightweight and strong rims that have gotten wider (24.2mm) to better pair with the newer standard of 25mm wide tires allowing for greater volume, better handling and cornering, lower rolling resistance, and an overall smoother ride. The wider rims also contribute to better lateral stiffness for improved power transmission and bolster better aerodynamics when paired with the wider tires. These gains in ride quality also come with an overall weight loss since the cross-section of a wider rim lets Campagnolo use less material while offering a rim of equal strength. The use of a rotor as a braking surface instead of on the rims allows Campy to further optimize the layup to save weight, improve aerodynamics, and focus on the ride quality instead of the heat and pressure requirements of rim braking. Additionally, Campy uses an advanced resin that creates a brilliant finish, without the need for a final clearcoat so it's highly durable, UV resistant and saves weight. One of our favorite features is the use of Rim Dynamic Balance technology which creates a perfectly balanced rim that is more stable at speed through the use of structural counterweights.

At the center of the wheels are hubs made of aluminum with a flange designed to cope with the additional forces and torque transfer across the hub that's seen with disc brakes. Inside the shells are Campy's Ultra Smooth Bearings (USB) using legendary Campagnolo ceramic bearings to keep things rolling smoothly and a user adjustable lockring that allows you to adjust the preload to compensate for wear while keeping drag to a minimum. Axles come in at 12 x 100mm front and 12 x 142mm rear matching the current spacing and axle options on modern road disc framesets and the centerlock rotor mounting allows for 6-bolt as well with adapters sold separately, while the freehub body accommodates Campagnolo cassettes.

Campy modified its famous G3 spoke pattern to compensate for the different loads the wheels now face with disc use. The symmetric, radially laced front wheel used on the rim brake version now gets its own version of G3 lacing while the already asymmetric rear receives slight modifications to create space for the rotor and better balance spoke tension between the drive and disc sides. Campagnolo finishes off the Bora One 50 Disc with a few more thoughtful details. Black anodized self-locking nipples virtually eliminates the possibility of the bladed stainless steel spokes from losing tension. MoMag technology allows Campy to place the nipples in the rim without the need for drilling spoke access holes on the outer wall of the rim, improving the carbon integrity and stiffness. Campy constructs and lays-up all of the carbon for the Boras in Vicenza, and every piece is X-rayed to scan for imperfections.
