Burton AK Helium Insulator Jacket - Women's
BurtonAK Helium Insulator Jacket - Women's

Worthy of the AK name.

Tear up the pow in the Burton Women's AK Helium Insulator Jacket, and keep your core temperature nice and regulated. For optimum heat retention the front, back, and arms of the jacket feature low-bulk PrimaLoft insulation sandwiched between 20D ripstop nylon to provide focused warmth where you need it. The Helium's underarms and side panels use extra-breathable DryRide Softshell fabric that effectively evacuates excess body moisture. On long hikes or warmer days, use the Helium Jacket as an outer layer, and its DWR treatment will provide a first line of defense against moisture. Wear it under a technical shell for ultimate protection against frigid midwinter days. Zippered handwarmer pockets give you ample storage or a place to put your hands when they get cold, and a fleece-lined collar pampers your face when you're all-the-way zipped.

Perfect Mid-Layer

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

This is the layer I've been missing all along!!!!

I got this jacket this winter and it's been the perfect mid-layer. I used to wear a base layer with a baggier base layer on top until I got this jacket. Now my setup is a base layer, the Helium insulator, and a shell on top. It has been ideal for the majority of conditions I've been in this year.

I've been really impressed with how well-made this jacket is. I've borrowed a handful of synthetic Patagonia insulators from my friends over the years and they always seem really worn with threads unravelling. I've put this jacket through quite a bit and it's held up great.

There is stretch paneling on the sides which makes it fitting and gives it a flattering cut that is still feminine. It has a bit of a drop tail in the back making it a great fit for those of us with longer torsos.

The synthetic fill tends to do better for packing. It compresses down nice, dries quickly, and keeps you really warm.

I'm looking forward to using this jacket for backpacking in the summer time. It will be a nice warm layer to have year round.

This jacket runs really small

  • Fit: Runs small

I loved the look of this jacket but when I tried it on it ran at least one size too small. I couldn't even come close to zipping it up.

I loved the Sorcerer color, and the darker DryRide side panels and underarms are very flattering. I was a little surprised that the photo above has the AK logo on the front of the jacket. When I received it, the AK logo was on the bottom back right. No biggie, However, Unfortunately, the small was too small and the medium was too big, once again... I'm a smedium :( So I returned it.

perfect mid-layer

I love this coat--received it as a birthday present in late July (i know). It was a great by-itself layer in the fall and is my go-to mid-layer while riding. compacts easily w/no bulk and has great insulation since i'm one of those 'always cold' people even though I love riding and the snow.
