Warmth without the weight.
Packing the warmth of 750-fill goose down without slowing you down with excess bulk, the BLACKYAK Men's Maiwa Light Down Jacket is a toasty midlayer for adventurous alpine missions, fast-moving ski tours, and ice climbing pursuits. To maintain lofting power in the wet and damp, the down insulation features a hydrophobic finish that repels condensation and outside moisture from compromising its heat-trapping loft. BLACKYAK places lightweight Cordura ripstop along the insulated panels for a high levels of abrasion-resistance. This fabric uses a DWR finish that repels outside moisture from seeping through and dampening the down insulation beneath. Along the rest of the jacket's body, Cordura Stretch Fleece maintains a soft, stretchy feel during fast-paced alpine activities while holding up against abrasion and regular abuse.

- Q & A
Inordinately tight fit
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: Extra Large
First, let me say the quality of the materials used on this jacket seem to be of the very best quality. Since I'm returning mine I can't fully comment on durability, but I can tell that major care and craftsmanship go into these Black Yak products. Maybe because of that, the jacket is also a tad heavy for it's intended use(s). Even so, I would have kept it if not for the fit. Besides from the neck being rather too wide in proportion to the rest of the jacket (I don't have a skinny neck, either), the sleeves and armhole/shoulder area are extremely tight, way too tight in fact to be serviceable for me. I will say that, as someone who works out a lot (210 lbs and a height of 5'11"), I am muscular, but not to the point where many XL size jackets are this restrictive. Yes, the sleeves are made of a somewhat stretchy material, but it is also a thick material that doesn't have very much "give." Even it it did, however, the shoulder area would make it unwearable. In Patagonia and even in Black Diamond (which I consider slim-fitting) I wear size large and don't run into too much trouble. Anyway, if anybody knows of other Black Yak products that fit a little more roomy, I would be interested to know which ones, as I am still very intrigued by this brand! Thanks.
I love everything about the Black Yak Maiwa Light Down Jacket with one crucial exception ... the biceps are too tight. For some reason, my hooded Black Yak jacket fits phenomenally well, and this one did too through the torso, but on this one the arms were just too tight. Not sure why. C'est la vie.
My favorite down jacket
This is the cleanest down jacket I've ever worn. Great attention to detail and packs down to nothing.
Light Down Insulation
Great movement and breathability
Because it's used with high end CORDURA Stretch the material never looses its memory.
