Why We Like The Solid Hood Balaclava

As we're bombing down the mountain, laying first tracks, the Solid Hood Balaclava shields our face from the chapping wind. At the end of our run, we use the lens-safe fabric to wipe the powder off our goggles. This face mask might be washer- and dryer-friendly, but the odor-fighting tech lets us put off washday.

Go to facemask for skiing

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is the only way to go if you are looking for a facemask to ski in. Better than a neck tube and better than a balaclava. Its kinda a mix of the two but superior in every way.

The best balaclava

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Blackstrap makes the best balaclavas on the market. Very versatile and customizable for maximum comfort. You can easily tuck the hood in neck tube if it gets too hot. The material is soft and offers SPF protection from the suns rays. Just the best!

Best Fitting Balaclava

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This Balaclava fits so much better than anything else I've tried in my 25 years of skiing. The mask part is really easy to move and adjust around since it has a hinge design that attaches to the back. My only gripe is the material. I would love to see this offered in a thinner less synthetic material like a Merino or something.

Stellar

Familiarity:

I've been using Blackstrap Hoods for about 5 years and they're an absolute game changer in colder conditions. I originally bought it for snowboarding specifically, but ended up using it in almost all my cold outdoor adventures. 10/10 designed product

Best Balaclava Ever

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Love it. Snow doesn't stick to it, it does not absorb stink, machine wash and dry. The face mask moves up and down without pulling the on the top of the hood. Super nice. I have many! Lots of cool colors.

Great wool alternative

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I previously used a wool gaiter, but got tired of it freezing when wet. I never had that issue with the BS balaclava. Works great under a helmet or hat. I used it skinning up on cold mornings and it was nice to be able to pull the lower part down when overheating. Seems to be durable as well.
