Black Diamond Distance Carbon FLZ Trekking Poles
Black DiamondDistance Carbon FLZ Trekking Poles

Lightweight, easy to pack, and ultra-quick to assemble.

When there's serious distance on the day's agenda, the superlight design and bomber support of the Black Diamond Distance Carbon FLZ Trekking Pole comes in pretty handy. With a shaft made of pure carbon fiber, the FLZ manages to weigh a seriously light eight ounces per pole, and still boasts a collapsible design and FlickLock Pro length-adjustment system. It folds into three sections with the push of a button and extends with a quick pull, much like an avalanche probe, for easy packing and deployment, while the FlickLock Pro system gives you 20cm of length adjustment with the flip of one easy-to-operate clamp.

It's no good if the whole package is uncomfortable to carry, so Black Diamond made sure the EVA grip and foam grip extension sit comfortably in the hand and hooked up a padded, breathable, and moisture-wicking strap for extra support and comfort. The FLZ makes short work of all sorts of terrain, too, thanks to interchangeable carbide and rubber Tech Tips that grip on rock, snow, and ice like it's no big thing.

Stick to light treks

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Replaced with Alpine PLZ, they gave out at the thumb release for folding up. I would use them on light hikes though.

Poles to Use

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love these poles. I have resisted using poles for 20 years, but now enjoy having them in my pack. I like that they won't attract lightening in the high country, and they adjust in length. They don't make noise like my older poles (no clinking with impact), the handles are comfortable, and so far are sturdy (used for summer hiking season in southern CO). They are a bit pricey, but worth it for all the features: fold small, light, adjustable.

These poles are the perfect design. They're easily collapsible and they never collapse under loading. Super light AND durable. Hiking with a broken leg has never been easier!

    Great Trekking Poles

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Very Light, easy to deploy, adjustable and easy to store in backpack.

    Great choice

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These things have gone to the Grand Canyon in icy conditions, the hills and rivers in Arkansas during the rainy season, and done great in all conditions. I like that they are super lightweight, and collapse down to a small length. I also like the removable tips and basket. Last summer, my friend and I used these to hike up a mountain in Colorado. I would have died without them... maybe not literally, but they are really good to lean on (says the flatlander, who had a hard time breathing in the thin Colorado air).

    Favorite Trekking Pole.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These have become my favorite trekking pole. I love them for everything from approaching climbs to hiking with my friends. These poles work great for climbing approaches because they are so packable and light you can just throw them in your pack when you are climbing and not even notice they are there, and then you don't even have to think twice about having a pole for the approaches and descents. I try and bring poles with me whenever I am hiking for a long distance or steep trails to help protect my knees and with these poles I hardly ever think twice about it.

    Very versatile and reliable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used these poles for over two years now and have come to rely on them in more ways than one. I am in my 40's and not a young buck like I used to be. But they have helped me get up to over 10,000 feet in the Colorado Rockies and various other locations I have been. I am very confident in "Black Diamond" that I bought another pair. I look forward to many more trails.

    Super light hiking poles

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Theses poles are super light, packable and easy to assemble. Used them on several off trail multiday treks the Grand Canyon. Performed superbly. Bear in mind that they are very stiff, that was sort of unexpected.

    15" of packable pole

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

What makes these poles so great is.

    A) They're super light
    B) They pack to 15" making packing them in you bag a cinch
    C) The grip is perfect for summer hiking

My only gripe is the non replacement basket design. If you could replace the little trekking basket with a larger powder basket for ski touring these would be 5 stars.

    Fast and Light

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got these poles as a gift for my ultra-running roommate who is currently training for 50- and 100-mile races this summer in the Wasatch and Cascade mountains, respectively.

He was looking for poles that could fold up and get set quickly, wasting no time in an already eons-long (my words, not his) endeavor. These fit the bill perfectly.

Their small (folded) size is so well-suited to high-speed pursuits: they fit in the back of his Salomon S-Lab hydration vest without any hassle.

    Great Folding Poles

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

This set of poles are very easy to set up and put away, thanks to its folding mechanism. They are super light which makes them easy to carry as well.

    Great Trekking Poles

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The trekking poles are excellent, I usually just use one while hiking. While hiking they are very light and you do not get fatigue from using them. I would highly recommend this pole to anyone.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

    Light weight, convenient to carry.

    The perfect trekking pole

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This pole is light and stiff. It's also a dream to go from packed to ready to use - literally seconds. Just slide and it all clicks into place.

This pole is set and forget - you can set the length with the excellent locking mechanism, and then every time you extend the pole it's right back at your preset length. What could be better? I love mine on the trail.

These are incredibly light poles. So much so that they make great trail running poles as well.

The only downside is they don't have a super wide range of adjustability for use with a low tarp. I don't have that issue but if you're have that use case be sure to check the adjustability length is going to work for all your trail uses.
