Bought traverse ski poles for backcountry skiing

Took them out in the backcountry last weekend. They work great. The basket is a good size for powder and they seem pretty sturdy. I'm 5.9 and use the 145 cm which is perfect.

The original, the bes

After beating on my original pair for about ten years, I finally broke one of them while trying to take out a bend I caused in a hard tumble pulling a sled in the backcountry. These are super rugged, easy to use with mittens/gloves on, and guaranteed to hold up in the backcountry.

Great ski pole, love the

Great ski pole, love the grips at both the handles and midway down the pole. One star off because the dang snow baskets were so difficult to get on and there were zero installation instructions. Had to use YouTube. That being said, once they were properly installed, they said on thru deep snow and fast speeds.

Skied them since the 90s

These are the only poles I’ve had since the mid 90s. And by that I mean they’ve lasted me that long. Same pair. Not a bad investment.

Light and stiff poles

I got these poles for backcountry touring. The flicklock locks work great, and I appreciate the second grips which make it easy to adjust your grip when sidehilling. They're light, stiff, work great and haven't had any issues yet.

Great poles

Just got these and so far they seem great. Grips are comfy and the lock mechanism seems well built.

Traverse poles

The new-ish orange and black Traverse poles are significantly better than the predecessor blue and black ones. The older version had unreliable metal clips on the length-adjusters. The newer version returns to the tried-and-true clip without the metal and inconvenient tiny hex wrench with which to adjust. I have added an ice-scraper to the handle of my previous set of the new Traverse poles. That is very handy on an uphill with a few pounds of snow on your skis. See photo below. I think a similar scraper would improve the poles. That all said, live in Steamboat, backcountry ski about 130 days a year, and the Traverse poles are my go-to. I just bought a new pair as backup to backup and for guests. The baskets are a good size. The weight is good. I like the larger (155cm) length. It can handle deep new snow. Even the rubbery in-shaft grip is useful on quick downhills where you want shorter pole length but don't want to take the time to shorten the pole. So for a guy who had backcountry skied thousands of days, the Traverse is currently my go-to. Best to all at BD. Bob in Steamboat
