Session Shoe

The Session Shoe is the most casual approach shoe from Black Diamond, designed for climbers commuting from climbing gyms to crags, and maybe stopping at a cafe along the way. Black Diamond's engineered knit upper feels both breathable and durable to keep comfy on warm trails, and the elastic heel maintains a snug fit that you can collapse to wear as a slip-on in between redpoint attempts. The lining is a sock-like bootie built to accommodate socks, or not. Underfoot, Black Diamond's BlackLabel rubber gives street-styled stickiness, and EVA cushions on trails and sidewalks alike.

Very comfortable

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I am very happy with these. They fit well and are comfortable. I keep them by the door for daily use. I also use them as my post hike shoes when I'm ready to take my boots off. Also great for traveling and going through TSA. I did go up 1/2:size for an ideal fit for me.

Love these shoes - 2nd Pair!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These are the most comfortable shoes. I wear them everywhere from work to the trails. They are stretchy and lightw, eight and I wear them everyday. My first pair is over a year old and still going strong. Even after a year of wear and abuse, I took them to Moab and the sole struck to the slickrock like glue. It's amazing how tacky these shoes are. I highly recommend and hope Black Diamond makes these shoes forever.

Mind-blowingly comfy

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I randomly tried these on in the store about a year ago (right before everything shut for the pandemic), and they were so comfy I impulse-shopped these, which I never do. I was not disappointed. I've worn them daily for the last year for just about everything non-technical, and they are still good (though showing some wear). I even loaf around the house in them - mostly because I forget I have them on. I also bought a black pair that I keep nice to wear at work. There is not much to say that other reviews don't, but think of them as the most comfortable pair of slip-ons you'll ever have, and they somehow still have enough going on to wear outside. One ironic catch worth mentioning: the rubber is super sticky and actually surprisingly durable (amazing on desert slickrock), but I would not recommend actually using these as approach shoes. Because of the thin sole and elastic build they are too soft and unsupportive to hike well - I rolled my ankles several times on the one approach I tried. That being said: if you happen to have them at the crag, they are super easy to slip on and off. The sizing is pretty spot-on, though they can feel a bit bigger with the stretch.

Crazy comfortable

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

i have tons of different approach shoes(mainly arcteryx), but are definitely the most comfortable and maybe the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I guess the one downfall is they have zero support if you have arch issues. I have had them a week only in the city and they have performed excellent. Buying a second pair now.

Favorite shoes ever?

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These are very comfortable minimalist shoes with enough just enough padding to not bruise my heels. I get compliments on these several times a month yet after wearing them everywhere for 7 months (and counting). I use these for sailing, coaching swimming, working out, and even for casual use around town. I also wear them at work everyday where I am on my feet constantly. They grip wet surfaces really well. Somehow, they show no signs of wear!

My Favorite Shoe for Everything

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These shoes are my new favorites. Why? Because you can slip them on and off without untying. Why is that important? It's not that I am inherently annoyed at needing to tie my shoes, but i often find myself in a number of situations where its extremely convenient to just be able to slip my shoes on without having to untie/tie them back up. Below are some of the examples when it's extremely nice to not have to untie. 1. Fly Fishing - when I pull up to the river and want to throw on and off my waders, these make things simple. 2. Post skiing - After touring, especially in the early mornings after a dawn patrol. these are the easiest things to slip on and off after pulling my boots on. 3. Taking the dog out to go potty. Yep, slip em on, and be able to chase your little hellion after they make a midnight attempt at escape. 4. They make excellent shoes for driving a stick shift car. Not sure why this one applies as much, but they are super comfortable for driving.

Shoe performance in a slip on

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I picked these up as a townie cruiser for warm weather and have done some very chill bouldering / sport climbing approaches in these. Shoes are comfy and breath well for the warm months. But these are realistically mostly my around town and going to the climbing gym shoes. My favorite feature is being able to use them like slip on's via the elastic heel, but they still have laces so I kinda look like an adult.
